The Columbus Blue Jackets enter this off-season with the primary goal of upgrading their defense, and they may be willing to move one of their top prospects to make it happen.

That prospect appears to be Kerby Rychel, who the Blue Jackets selected 19th overall in the 2013 entry draft.

After an excellent junior career, Rychel turned pro last season and had a solid year.

He scored 12 times and added 33 points in 51 AHL games, and also tallied three assists while performing well in five games with the Blue Jackets.

His season was cut short due to a concussion, however, he seems to be progressing well as he was recently cleared to resume workouts.

I think it makes sense for Kekalainen to listen on Rychel. He should be able to fetch a good return, and the Blue Jackets already have an abundance of good, young forwards on their team or on the way.

The offers that come in will ultimately determine whether or not Jarmo Kekalainen pulls the trigger on such a deal, but it's safe to say Rychel will draw plenty of interest.
