A man imprisoned for 11 years accused of rape will walk free today.

The Cook County State’s Attorney is expected to drop charges after the University of Chicago’s Exoneration Project started dissecting the wrongful conviction.

58-year-old Carl Chatman, a mentally disabled homeless man, was accused of raping a woman inside the Daley Center in May of 2002. Chatman’s lawyer says there was no evidence of a crime and the woman cried rape simply to make money off of damages.

She got a big sum of money from this case and another big settlement when she made the same claim in 1979 about another man.

Today, Chatman will be released after 11 years behind bars.

His family says they have always believed he was innocent.

Chatman is expected to be released from the Dixon correctional center this afternoon.
