You love movies. You love convenience, and you want instant access to movies at home. You like something a little different, but want to be entertained without feeling like you’ve seen it before. Then, you might like IndieFlix, where you can stream unlimited movies for free with your Oak Park Public Library card and PIN.

Yes, there are an increasing number of outlets to choose from when assessing your streaming video needs, and they all provide access to movies and/or TV shows. What they will not all do is give you the chance to see the work of accomplished independent filmmakers. IndieFlix offers a range of shorts, features, and documentary films from around the world, many of which are not otherwise available in the United States.

Created and curated by filmmakers to provide access to independent films, IndieFlix uses a revenue sharing model that allows creators to receive fair compensation for their work. Because IndieFlix films have been accepted by an established film festival—Chicago International, SXSW, Sundance, and Toronto International—you know you’re seeing quality filmmaking.

Personally, I love quirky stories with an edge. Guess what? The people at IndieFlix have curated movie channels that suit me, including Zombies, Dark Comedy, and my favorite, VHS Throwbacks. There’s a diverse selection of genres, from LGBTQ to Political to Music. Finding films is easy, too. Use the title/actor/director search or browsing channels; limit your viewing to a specific country of origin or film festival, and browse titles by genre, duration, or audience (family, teen, adult).

And no need to worry about frustrating incompatibilities with your device of choice; IndieFlix films can be played on any PC or Mac, Apple or Android tablet/smartphone, or streamed to your TV via Roku or Xbox.

If that isn’t exciting enough, IndieFlix likes to interact with viewers. Today they launch Indie Madness, a March Madness bracket-style competition, pitting shorts against feature films. Check out the competing films and follow the competition on their blog, where each vote you cast earns you a chance to win an iPad.

Get started today with your valid library card and device of choice. I guarantee you’ll find something unique to enjoy, and the filmmakers will appreciate your direct support for their craft.
