1936 Guerra Civil: Endless variety, elaborate combinations, and deck-building makes this good game. It has so many possible combinations, and there is tremendous strategy to both building decks and playing the game. Downside is the heavy time and financial committment involved in a tematic game.

Excellent production. Top quality components, art, printing. This is a good and fun card driven game. The best of the influnce in areas games. The cards tend to even out over the course of the game so the games are tight and in the balance until the very end. I really enjoyed it. Great interaction and strategies. Luck will not win you this game!

An interesting game of cat & mouse between unbalanced forces. A kind of Diplomacy (AH) for two players, without support and events. I think we got some rules and examples wrong (time to re-read the rulebook) and timing of card resolution is chaotic and or doesn't exist. The order in which cards are stolen is 90% of the game. Limited replayability. An expensive game for what it offers.

The good doctor is back in Egypt with a meaty boardgame that has a lot to like about it. Players play 2 "turns" - the Old Kingdom and the New Kingdom. Each turn consists of purchasing via Evo-auction a province, then developing the province with farmers and pyramids. It all costs money, so you have to concentrate on income also. At the end of the first half, ownership is removed, yet the pyramids remain! A bit of down time whenever a player takes power cards, which is exaggerated with more players, however this is clever stuff.

Knizia hardly ever disappoints.

A Fluxx/party style game where players get to vote on the rules, and suitable for up to ten players. Fun with a group. There's not a lot of control over things (after all, you only get one vote), but some funny things happen along the way.

In the line of Jaipur and Splendor but without being superior to either of them. There's an intrinsic randomness factor that can make a game go wrong. Must be better with 2-players.

A Civilization "Lite"! The rules can be explained in 10 minutes and setup time is 1 minute. It has the Civilization feeling, but can easily be played in 2 hours. Very enjoyable and quick-paced game of civilization building and conquest. The game is well balanced, and good-looking. The Rondel (the way you choose your action each turn) is a excellent, magistral and innovate mechanism. I prefer Mare Nostrum.

A good nice little abstract with lovely frogger pieces, simple rules and some addictive, brain-burning play. Smashing little filler. Great family game.

A really good and clever two-player area control game with multiple paths to victory with different possible strategies (not all of them might be balanced - for now I have only seen one-temple and 40 points wins). Challenging and quick to play (about 20 minutes).

An excellent choice you can play when you have at least 5 players. Theme is great, amazingly fun and addictive. An excellent light game to play after something heavy. A bit random, but a very clever game system and a very high fun factor.

This game is like Blokus, but better: the action occurs in three dimensions, the components are nicer, and there are several boards on which to play. Easy to set-up, east to teach, and easy to understand. Very fun abstract game.

A very solid game though. Wolfgang Kramer's masterpiece. This is a 2 to 4 player abstract game. A elegant "brainburner". Ingenious mechanics and subtle deep game play. Simply wonderful. Buy it now.

Great economic and hand/tile management Very deep, with lots of rewarding strategies and important tactical decisions. Wonderful replayability. The worst your terrible manual (rulebook) and little downtime even with 4.

Fast playing game of tile placement into various cities on the board. Tiles come in seven flavours and players are trying to have the most tiles surviving at the end of the game. Tiles can move between cities, setting up power struggles with the loser coming off the board. Quite thoughtful and not bad at all. Feels very pacey to play - a good thing.

A classic game. I have a FFG's Second Edition.

Another solid and interesting Wallace offering. Fantastic theming and sense of history as the Arab armies swarm across the ravaged Byzantine and Persian empires. Innovative gameplay and mechanics: As all players play both sides, it is always a kind of friendly feeling, though it is a game of conquest and plunder.

Three negative aspects:
(1) End of game rule doesn't work well with 2 players (To avoid this I used a house rule that you may not pass in a 2 player game unless you have used up your complete dice pool),
(2) the combat resolution is pure luck (huge luck factor), when it all comes down to rolling the dice. This rolling the dice to resolve fights ruins the game. The only thing taking combat about the level of RISK is the fact that both armies can hurt each other on the roll of the dice (To avoid this I used a Mare Nostrum combat rules (sum the result of all the dices, and each 5 points, a loss causality),
(3) It is way too easy for someone to use the Bulgars to attack Constantinople to end the game quickly (To avoid this I used a house rule that you add 2 cubes or zero cubes and attack).

The components in the new Homo Ludicus edition are well done, the mapboard is very well and the best thing of the game. This race game is simple and thus easy to teach, and gameplay is fairly exciting. Being stuck for multiple turns with nothing to do can be very frustrating (you depend a lot on the speed dices). Too simplistic for me, and therefore too repetitive. Good for non-gamers and casual gamers, while the blocking provide a more satisfying focus of play for full-on gamers--as long as they don't take it too seriously. A racing game which doesn't offer anything more interesting.

A good short abstract. It is entertaining and you always want to play more than one game. In my opinion, higher than Onitama. As a negative point to say that there are some situations that are not very well clarified by reading the rules. I think it would be necessary to review it. Some really useful examples are missing. FAQ 1.2 solves some of them.

Camelot Legends is a beautifully produced card game that's extremely true to the Arthurian mythos. There's also an interesting and elegant game system at the heart of everything. However, there's so much variety among the CCG-like game cards, and you have so many of them out at the same time that the complexity ultimately obfuscates and detracts from the elegant game system. It's generally recommended for Arthurian enthusiasts and serious CCG players, but others will probably find it overwhelming and/or too hard to play.

The Poker Set Edition.

The game surprised me pleasingly, I had thought it was was going to be worse. Nonetheless I prefer San Marco.

I am charmed with it. Great buy. This game is a challenge that pack lots of difficult decisions into a simple game. Great strategic game. The competition for constructing buildings off the board is tense, then bringing building on to the board and hoping they'll score for you is great.

An abstract game that supports multiple players and features hidden goals. Simple game with good strategy and problem solving.

One of my favorite Cheapass Board Games. This game is a much better use of the Dr Lucky moving pawn mechanic, and a more interesting game to me.

Original. Very clean and elegant tile laying game from Hans im Glueck. The city of Carcassone is constructed by simply drawing a tile and positioning it on the ever increasing game "board". Players score points by playing their coloured pieces onto the played tile as a knight (in cities), farmers (on the green stuff), robbers (on roads) and clergyman (on monasteries). Points are maximised by enlarging the sphere of your piece. Timing is everything, as you only get your pieces back when you complete a sphere. Excellent game.

A new release early in 2002. Adds some new shaped city pieces, a grey set of playing pieces for a sixth player plus some new goodies that alter play and scoring. Giant "men" exert double influence on the board; cathedrals make each city/pennant tile worth three points IF the city is finished, otherswise zero; inn-on-the-lake tiles make the robber worth two points per road if finished, otherwise zero. Recommended.

Nice expansion for Carcassone. A well placed pig can be lucrative (5 points per city for farmers); trade goods now give you a reason to finish other player's cities (bonus points at end of game); builder gives you an extra action when triggered. Makes for a long game if all the expansions are used.

There's really just way too much going on in this version of Carcassonne. This is the hard-core gamer's version. It's fun, but it lacks the simple appeal of the original. You wouldn't want to play this with non-gamers.

Two player Carcassone stand alone game. Players are now restricted to playing tiles into city walls. Pawns can be played on towers, houses, roads or courts (=courtyards). The tile adjacency rules have been loosened slightly so now only roads have to be continued from tile to tile, but it's still tricky. Bonus chits for hitting certain spaces on the victory point track add a nice element of decision making when deciding when/how to score. Different enough to warrant owning.

A free release from Essen 2001. Adds 12 River tiles that are built initially before the main tile set is started. The River is another barrier, like a road. Apart from that, nothing changes.

I bought this game only because I loved the pirate theme, but it turned out to be a gem, especially for two. With two players, the game lends itself to clever tactical ploys and can be played quite seriously if you are so inclined. Very abstract and rare mechanic. Move factor is curious. Graphics and components are genial.

Simple fast abstract strategy game for two players. Simple of rules, complex in terms of tactics and strategy. Adds a new tilting mechanic to pieces. Bakelite production is exceptional. Elegant and precious.

This is one of the most original and interesting games we have played. One of the best influence games I've played. Probably my favorite 3-player game (together with San Marco). The dice add a substantial element of randomness, but a good player will always be able to adapt his/her strategy so as to make the most out of it, even if it means having to completely change plans. Highly addictive and super replay value. A great game with a difference.

Nice light game. Simple to learn, but still very fun to play. After several plays new strategies have come up. More fun with larger groups (4-5). When playing with 2 players use the 2 player varient on Faidutti's website.

Great game for bigger groups. Nice fill-in deduction game for min.6 players. Very unique gameplay and amazing artwork. Maybe a little balance problems, but otherwise a fine game.

Expansion to Settlers of Catan that doubles the complexity and focuses on development of cities, as well as added powers for knights. Games now take twice as long. Good variant if you want your Settlers a bit meatier and nastier. The best expansion of Settlers of Catan. It he adds a lot of major depth to the game. Recommended.

I'm charmed with his her philosophy. It he adds new rules and some new concept to the game. A necessary buy when you get tired of playing to the basic one.

Overrated. not much tension at all during the entire game. You'd think that during workers placement phase their would be a lot of tension to see who would get what, but that rarely occured. If your opponent picked a tile you planned on selecting that phase, no problem I'll just take this other tile instead. This game might have lots of interesting mechanisms, interesting decisions but it is boring.
Every turn you have to consider every possibility, since everything might change between your turns. There are no long-term strategy to be found. Very ugly graphics, especially the cover, board and tiles!

Excellent game, considerably better than Caylus. This game is quick, hurts your brain and has great components for a card game.

The interesting part of this game is that you can force your opponent to capture a piece, thereby setting him up for an even worse capture. OK every once in a while.

Elegant, simple & fast game. China is a redevelopment of Web of Power with slight modifications. An excellent light game. Interesting multi-layer area influence game, with interesting scoring system. The double-sided board allows for very good scaling, while gameplay is always quick and tense. The emissary scoring is poor. If you're a fan of area control games, this is one of the best (I call it "El Grande lite"), and the fact that it plays well with three is a major plus.

Rock solid game where players take on diety like roles and nurture their cities and citizens. With a limited number of actions in each of the six turns, there are numerous decisions to be made - ensuring there is enough food, attracting citizens (ie. victory points), improvements to your cities, and so on. Large and lavish production, excellent and rewarding game play.

A great little game. The cards and pieces are beautiful and it's fun and easy to play. In my opinion the best not collectible card game. A game of obligatory buy. The classic one. I have the spanish version.

Ideal for games of 20-30 minutes. Minimum 4 players. Simple, easy to learn, quick-playing with a deeper strategic element than at first you might think; delightful to try to manipulate the formation of villages, without giving away one's color. A great 2 player game, especially when accompanied by cocktails.

I have the handycraft's game. Quick-playing tile game, good for a filler, not too many decisions to make, but you have to think some. The luck has sometimes an important role, but that makes this tactical game rather fun, and allows surprises, which is more than bearable (in fact enjoyable) for a 15 minutes game.
