Former baseball coach convicted of assaulting children gets 40-year sentence
Robert Joubert convicted on four federal charges
A former youth baseball coach convicted of sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of child pornography was sentenced Tuesday.
Robert Joubert, 60, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for sexually exploiting a boy starting in 2002.
According to authorities, Joubert used his position as a coach to get close to the victim's family and then made and participated in sexually explicit videos.
During sentencing, prosecutors said Joubert was a predator who took advantage of a vulnerable young man.
Judge Joe Laplante said culture has given coaches an elevated status, similar to clergy or other trusted members of society, and it's shocking when that trust is betrayed.
Joubert maintained his innocence and said he will not apologize for something he didn't do.
Joubert will not be eligible to leave federal prison until he is 100 years old.
