Democratic Senator Admits:
"We All Knew" Obama’s Promise Wasn’t True

Mary Landrieu Made Same False Promise as Barack Obama

Despite the blatantly political effort by Democrat Mary Landrieu to save her job by distancing herself from ObamaCare, it's become abundantly clear that she knew full well that some Americans would lose health care plans that they liked, yet repeatedly made dishonest promises otherwise.

When asked whether President Obama mislead Democrats, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) disclosed: "He should have just been more specific...No, we all knew."

The Democratic Senator from New York is a close colleague of Mary Landrieu's and admitted a truth that Landrieu so far has repeatedly refused to acknowledge: The fact that millions of people are losing health insurance that they like, forcing them into the ObamaCare exchanges, is an intended consequence of the law.

In fact, three years ago, Landrieu joined Senate Democrats to unanimously support the very ObamaCare rule that's responsible for the health insurance cancellations that have caused so much consternation over the last month. Even though 93,000 Louisianians are losing their health insurance, Mary Landrieu is doing her best to hide the fact that she is directly to blame for the disaster. Senator  Gillibrand's admonition makes clear that:

  1. Mary Landrieu was knowingly dishonest about people keeping their care yet repeatedly promised otherwise, or,
  2. Landrieu is so incompetent that she didn't comprehend the legislation that she championed.

"Mary Landrieu joined Barack Obama in repeatedly promising her constituents something that she knew was blatantly false, said NRSC Press Secretary Brook Hougesen. "How can any Louisianians trust anything Mary Landrieu says about ObamaCare today after she's been caught deceiving them about it repeatedly over the last four years? Louisianians are looking for competence and credibility in the Senate and Mary Landrieu has a crisis of both."

BACKGROUND

Democratic Senator Admits All Democrats Knew Americans Would Lose Their Health Care Plan. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand: "We All Knew" Obama’s Promise Wasn’t True.  (ABC's "This Week",11/17/2013)

Senate Democrats Voted Unanimously To Support The ObamaCare Rule That's Responsible For The Cancellation Of People's Health Insurance. "In September 2010, Senate Republicans brought a resolution to the floor to block implementation of the grandfather rule, warning that it would result in canceled policies and violate President Barack Obama’s promise that people could keep their insurance if they liked it....On a party line vote, Democrats killed the resolution, which could come back to haunt vulnerable Democrats up for re-election this year....The rule set up the criteria for what insurance plans would be grandfathered, or exempted, from the new Obamacare requirements."  (CNN, Senate Democrats supported rule that led to insurance cancellations, 10/31/2013)

Landrieu's Broken Promise: "Those Individuals Who Like The Coverage They Already Have Will Be Able To Keep Their Current Plan, “Lower and middle income people would receive subsidies to help them afford this insurance, while those individuals who like the coverage they already have will be able to keep their current plan. This is a very accurate description of this bill before us--the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.” (Sen. Mary Landrieu, Congressional Record, 12/22/2009, p. S13733)

In December 2009, Landrieu Repeated Obama’s Claim, “If You Like The Insurance That You Have, You’ll Be Able To Keep It.” LANDRIEU: “He told people if you have –” DR. DEAN: “– with a public option. That’s what he campaigned for.” LANDRIEU: “¬– if you like the insurance that you have, you’ll be able to keep it.” (MSNBC’s “Hardball,” 12/16/2009)
