05.13.2014 The House Education and Public Works committee gave this bill a favorable report. 05.07.2014 The House Education and Public Works Transportation subcommittee gave this bill a favorable report with an amendment. The amendment strikes all of the language in the bill and replaces it with language from H4386, the texting ban bill that previously passed the House. 02.25.2014 The Senate Judiciary committee gave this bill a favorable report with an amendment. The amendment includes a $100 fine for the first offense, but removed the 2 point deduction for a first offense. The amendment also created a $200 fine and 2 points for second offense and $300 and 2 points for third offense. 02.20.2014 A Senate Judiciary subcommittee gave this bill a favorable report with an amendment. The amendment removes the school zone distinction from the bill. 02.06.2014 A Senate Judiciary subcommittee carried this bill over. 04.24.2013 A Senate Judiciary subcommittee did not take action on this bill although it was on the agenda. Summary of the bill as introduced: Prohibits a person who holds a beginner's permit or restricted driver's license from driving a motor vehicle while using a cellular telephone or text messaging device. This bill also prohibits use of a cell phone or text messaging device while driving through a school zone. |
