TRENTON - An 18-year-old city man, in the U.S. for just one month from his native Guatemala, died following a beating on a Chambersburg street tonight, police said.

The teen, whose name was not released, was staying with relatives on the 200 block of Rusling Street. He was outside their house around 8:15 p.m. when he was accosted by three male suspects, Lt. Mark Kieffer said.

The three suspects beat the 18-year-old, Kieffer said, whose head may have struck the sidewalk or concrete porch during the assault. Police said the suspects fled on foot in separate directions.

The victim was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment, where he died shortly after arrival.

An autopsy will determine the 18-year-old's official cause of death, but tonight homicide detectives were on Rusling Street interviewing witnesses and seeking surveillance camera footage from a convenience store next to the home.

There was little blood at the scene, according to Kieffer, and none on a large snow shovel leaning against the front porch. A bag of takeout food sat untouched on the porch.

The case is under investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force, Kieffer said at the scene. No suspect descriptions were immediately available.

Anyone with information on the case should call the task force at (609) 989-6406, or call the Trenton police Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
