Kansas City, Mo. – Northwest Missouri’s Julien Couronne has been named the MIAA Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week with Northeastern State’s Kristina Savchenkov being named the Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
MIAA Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
Julien Couronne, Northwest Missouri
Couronne completed a perfect week for the Bearcats in singles and doubles, helping Northwest to wins over Bethany College and Division I member UMKC. At No. 5 singles, Couronne beat Uldis Gaismins from UMKC on Wednesday, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 and handed Amir Rahbar from Bethany College a 6-2, 6-1, defeat on Saturday. In doubles, he paired with fellow freshman Romain Boissinot to beat UMKCs No. 3 doubles team, 8-3 on Wednesday. On Saturday, the duo beat Bethany Colleges No. 2 doubles team, 8-3. The 6-0 freshman is a native of Lycee, France.
MIAA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
Kristina Savchenkov, Northeastern State
Savchenkov posted a 6-1, 6-4 upset victory over No. 32 Abby White this past week as NSU defeated #50 Arkansas-Fort Smith 8-1. Savchenkov also teamed with Barbora Jirickova to collect an 8-3 victory over Amy Belanger and Abby Thompson at No. 2 doubles. Savchenkov and Jirickova are 16-1 in doubles this year, and Savchenkov is 16-5 at No. 1 singles this season. The 5-8 sophomore is a native of Moscow, Russia where she competed at Health School N712.
