Brandon Weeden wants to be traded or released by the Browns, according to Mike Silver of NFL Network.
Silver reported two sources close to the Browns’ 2012 first-round draft choice said Weeden would like a fresh start with a different team in 2014. ‘Given the turmoil with the coaching staff and lack of public support from the most recent front office, he’s interested in a fresh start with a clean slate and an opportunity to compete to show he has the talent to develop into a productive player in the league,’ Silver said Tuesday on NFL Network’s ‘Total Access.’ Silver mentioned the Cardinals, Buccaneers and Texans as teams that might be interested in Weeden, who was 5-10 as a rookie and 0-5 in 2013. Coincidentally, the Texans are also believed to be interested in Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer because O’Brien was the Patriots quarterbacks coach when Hoyer was with New England from 2009-2011. Weeden’s salary of $1,124,872 for 2014 is guaranteed. Last year, the Browns traded quarterback Colt McCoy along with a sixth-round pick to the 49ers for a fifth-round pick and a seventh-round pick in last year’s draft. Related:
