Sloan Johnson

Sloan Johnson is a big city girl trapped in a country girl’s body. While she longs for the hustle and bustle of New York City or Las Vegas, she hasn’t yet figured out how to sit on the deck with her morning coffee, watching the deer and wild turkeys in the fields while surrounded by concrete and glass.

When she was three, her parents received their first call from the principal asking them to pick her up from school. Apparently, if you aren’t enrolled, you can’t attend classes, even in Kindergarten. The next week, she was in preschool and started plotting her first story soon after.

Later in life, her parents needed to do something to help their socially awkward, uncoordinated child come out of her shell and figured there was no better place than a bar on Wednesday nights. It’s a good thing they did because this is where she found her love of reading and writing. Who needs socialization when you can sit alone in your bedroom with a good book?

Now, Sloan is a tattooed, purple haired mom of two kids, one of which was a thank you present to her husband for letting her get a Staffordshire Terrier with more anxiety issues than Sloan has, which is saying something. She’s been kicked out of the PTA in two school districts and is no longer asked to help with fundraisers because she’s been known to lose herself in a good book and forget that she has somewhere to be.

* Tatooed Zeke, Doctor Jeff, and Lawyer Mary are in a wonderful Ménage relationship, with Jeff and Zeke being bisexual, it makes for lots of great sex. But it's more than that. Deep characters with an interesting tale, make this story awesome. There is a lot going on, and it's hard to put down.
* Relationships are delved into, and we find acceptance, rejection, understanding, friendships, confusion, and finally true love. We learn everyone's backgrounds and issues and helps us realize where their problems come from. Zeke coming out to his family is difficult, but maybe they can finally resolve their issues. Jeff doesn't want to open up at work, but circumstances force the issue. Mary is their grounding force and she has past issues, too. Friends and family play a big role.
* The journey to true love is steady, loving, caring, and deep.

Wonderfully written, well done super hot sex, M/M and M/F/M, and the amazing story are worth reading.
Loved it !! Highly recommend !! E N J O Y !!!

****I received an ARC for a honest review****

This is one of the books I was so excited to read and let me tell you that Sloan did not disappoint. With the way we were left at the ending of Unexpected Protector, I thought I was going to die before I could read this book, which is book 3 in the series. The book picks up immediately where book 2 left off.

This book was filled with drama. It's also filled with new relationships, bonds, and feelings being formed and dealt with beyond the bedroom. Zeke is your total playboy who is trying to find himself away from his family and their rigid beliefs. Jeff comes from a troubled past that leaves him scared to share his life with anyone beyond the bedroom. Mary was a strong during character for both men who really helped them move forward and profess their feelings and for that I really adored her especially when she was so put out for a while in the beginning and the way the men of hers came through for her. I will say there is a scene in the beginning that is heartbreaking and had me feeling all kinds of sadness for Zeke.

I loved the menage dynamic between them. The sex was HOT. The individual scenes and the menage scenes were so scorching I thought my Kindle may burn me. This book has everything a book should. Love, antsy, bondage, some bdsm aspects, hot sex, loving relationships, and a much needed HEA. After the way book 2 ended, I was sweating it but Sloan came through for me!!

I loved watching Jeff, Mary, and Zeke figure out their menage relationship because it is not traditional. ***[[I loved the way Zeke came out to his family. EPIC!!!!]]*** I wish more people were understanding of this lifestyle but that's what makes you work for it and our three definitely had obstacles to face from their professional lives to personal lives in all aspects. But can they ALL three push through for their HEA??!!

One of my favorite scenes was our first glimpse at Zeke and Jeff in the bedroom that's at the beginning. HOT!! HOT!! HOT!! Also the hospital scene where relationships are exposed and put to the test. And then Zeke coming out to his family. Great scenes to an amazing book!!!!

And yes!!! We get to see more of Tommy and Holly. We watch Holly grow and become the woman she can be kind she works past her fears and we get glimpses off this through Jeff.

Ok the epilogue was short but so very sweet. It ended with a great HEA scene that I'm hoping for our star characters in this book. I did get a little teary eyed in a couple spots during it. It made me want a book 4 badly!

I am keeping my fingers crossed for a book 4 in the series starring Liam. Some people hate him. I loved him and feel like he deserves his HEA!! And maybe working on his relationship with Tommy and joining business forces with Dylan and Zeke.

*Be prepared to fan yourself guys!*

Unexpected Consequences was another sizzling hot romance that involved some very hot ménage sex!!

Book three of the Isthmus Alliance series picks up right after book two and we get thrown into whirlwind of drama, love, insecurities, and coming into terms with their pasts.

I felt that the dynamic of this threesome relationship was so vividly and realistically portrayed that I couldn’t help but be engaged the entire way through!

It was nice seeing them work through challenges and issues while remaining true to themselves and retaining an impenetrable bond amongst each other. It proved that despite obscurities and the twists and turns that life presents you, that you can still reach your HEA no matter what gets thrown your way!

I’m now curious though as to who’s up next for Ms. Johnson’s series? I think all signs are pointing to Liam!! Hehe.

I absolutely love this series. I love coming back to the entire list of characters and feel like I'm visiting old friends when I do. I love how Sloan Johnson gives us just enough of the other characters to make you feel like you've been able to keep up on their lives. I also like the connection between all of the characters. They really are a family for each other.

Unexpected Consequences went in a direction that I wasn't anticipating. I mean I knew about Mary and Jeff. I didn't know about Jeff and Zeke or about Mary and Zeke.

This isn't my first ménage à trois read. It was the first where that relationship was based on love and admiration and not just sex.

I think that is one of my favorite things about the Isthmus Alliance series. It is hot! It is sexy! But it is about relationships and what it takes to make them work, no matter the other issues involved.

The sex scenes were fan worthy...yet the growth and development of the characters is what will continue to bring me back for more!

I can't wait until the next installment! Sloan Johnson has a reader for life!

4.5 of 5 Steamy Stars!!!!

Phew, I need fanning after reading Unexpected Consequences. Having loved the first two Isthmus Alliance books, I kinda knew what was coming between the three players in this instalment but, wow, this book was smoking hot and so much more so than I hoped for!!!!

This story centres around Zeke, Jeff and Mary. After a brief refresher on the characters I was off on the next journey with this delicious threesome.

The contrasting characters in this book complement each other perfectly but it's Zeke's hidden sensitivity that captured my heart. Yes, Jeff is gorgeous and boy can he talk the talk but it's the journey Zeke makes which makes the story all the more worthwhile.

“Stop thinking, Zeke. I need you here with me.”

Recovering from the accident, Mary moves in with Zeke and is cared for round the clock by her two men. Zeke is unsure of this new relationship and the dynamics confuse him and he pulls and pushes against the feelings he is developing for both Jeff and Mary. Jeff is also trying to rationalise his emotions and also tries to resist the inevitable gravitational pull that the three of them are experiencing.

I’m not foolish enough to think that I am in love with her, but there’s definitely something deeper than friendship between us. And we need to make sure we’re on the same page in future.

Zeke struggles to come to terms with his new relationship and finds it hard to tell his family about his new love interests. Needless to say, Dylan and Tommy find it hard to accept initially but it's not long before the banter between the three returns and poor Zeke is left in no uncertain terms as to how much he respects these men in his life.

I love that not only are the scenes scorching hot, especially between Jeff and Zeke but Sloan is able to add a light-heartedness to the storyline.

Dylan, Tasha, Tommy and Holly, as expected, feature heavily in this book but we're still teased by Liam and what his story will be.

I think each book in this series gets better and better and, please, Sloan, keep writing the books in this amazing series.

Oh how I LOVE this series. I was hooked with the first, Unexpected Angel, and the story just keeps getting better and better. Unexpected Consequences is the love story between Mary, the friendly lawyer, Zeke, the laid-back music promoter, and Jeff, the down-to-earth doctor. As you can imagine, a relationship between three adults can be…tricky, especially if they have their own baggage that hasn’t been dealt with, and that is the case with these three. What is extremely prevalent though, is the bond that is formed at the very beginning of the story between them. Even though they try and mess things up between them, you can tell that the undying love is real and everything will work out in the end.

Sloan Johnson’s writing is so meaningful, so heartfelt, so REAL. I love how she delves deep into the relationship aspect of the characters. Yes, there is EXTREMELY hot sex, but it’s not the main focus. How the characters are guiding their lives and what they find passionate is what shines through. I love the constant switch between the character point of views. I love getting to see how each character sees a given situation through their eyes. I love how the past that threatens to cripple the budding relationship between Mary, Zeke, and Jeff is gently revealed to the reader through flashbacks. Character development is huge when I read and Sloan has done a fabulous job of not only making her main three characters beautiful, but also adding more layers to all her Isthmus Alliance posse. One of my most favorite things about reading a series where each book deals with a different couple, is the fact that you still get little glimpses from the previously introduced characters. I loved reading more about Dylan and Tasha and Tommy and Holly.

Unexpected Consequences was an amazing read that left me feeling giddy and a little sappy. It was wonderful to read a story about an m/f/m relationship that was different than others I’ve read before. Mary, Zeke and Jeff are such a fun, sexy couple. Their growing love was so rewarding to read about. I truly hope there is more in the works for the Isthmus Alliance crew! They are a delight to read about.

5 lovely smooches from me!

I have to begin this review by saying that stories containing manlove aren't my usual fare. However, I was so invested in this series that I just had to know how Zeke's story ended. And, I've gotta say...it was pretty intense. It was a full throttle roller-coaster ride of emotions from all of the characters. Typically you only see one character struggling with an issue in triad type romances. But, it seems as if every character in this story -- Mary, Zeke, and Jeff -- all had a demon that they had to face. Honestly, I think that's the reason why the story was so well done. It connected the characters in such a way to show the readers that life for them was perfect and that it did intrude in their sexy triad bubble...often. First with Mary's injury and then with her mother showing up to "help". It continued with Zeke's reluctance to tell his family about his relationship with Jeff and then them finding out about it in a most inauspicious manner. Then finally it ended with Jeff's reveal about his past which was brought to the fore by Zeke's unintended behavior. See...sounds complex right?!?! It was but very well done in how Johnson wove their lives together so well that the each character was integral to another. And, not just the primary characters either. The secondary characters really helped to make this story shine even more. I'm still eager to know what happens to Liam and can't wait to read his journey.

Quote from Unexpected Consequences - "Zeke is the man I can count on to be tender and loving. Jeff is the one I rely on to be forceful and demanding."

Well. Just. Damn. A relationship based around three people is definitely not the norm, but Sloan Johnson makes it real. She brings us right into the middle of a triad between Zeke, Jeff, and Mary. From romance, to fights, to every day life she shows us this relationship from the inside out. We’ve read about these characters in previous Isthmus Alliance stories and I’m thrilled that they all finally have a chance to tell their love story.

Sloan Johnson gives us brutal honesty, beautiful love, and sexy love scenes from beginning to end in Unexpected Consequences. There will be no spoilers in this review, but know that as this series moves along, I’m loving the characters more and more. Her way of writing just pulls you in and doesn’t let go, you want to hang on until the last word and see where the journey takes you.

I also want to warn you to have an open mind when reading this book. There are m/m, m/f/m, and f/m sex scenes. If that isn’t something you can have an open mind about, you may not want to grab this book. Personally, I think it was a beautifully written love story with just the right amount of angst and twists.

If you read the two previous books in this series, you are aquatinted with the characters in this book.   In book one, we learned that Isthmus Alliance is a group made up of members who participate in the BDSM lifestyle. The aut hor’s main focus is the actual relationships of the characters so some categorize this series as BDSM-lite.

The actual theme of Unexpected Consequences, in my opinion, is acceptance, being true to oneself and adult child/parent relationships.

Characters from the previous books do make appearances in this one, but it is mostly about the three main characters.  Zeke is co-owner of a thriving  music industry  business.  Jeff is a psychiatrist.  Mary is a lawyer.  All are successful.  And all figure out they want something different than the traditional relationship.

This story picks up where book 2 ended, actually back tracking just a little to a few minutes before the final scene.  We see it from a different perspective.  Since this book is mostly about the trinogamous relationship, we still have some mystery behind the Nick Romero drama that has been unfolding between the 3 books.  We still aren't completely to the bottom of this story.

After the accident at the end of book 2, beginning of book 3, Mary is injured.  Jeff and Mary move into Zeke's apartment, the place they always hooked up, so that Zeke and Jeff can take care of Mary.  Being constantly together leads to more deeper feelings which leads to having to face each other's pasts, presents, futures, families and friends.

"You're a lucky man, doctor.  Seems to me you hit the jackpot a couple times over.  Now you'd just better hope it doesn't all explode in your face."

Yet another reason I don't do relationships.  Apparently, getting involved in one means emasculating myself and putting my balls up on a shelf.  Being with two people, I'm not really sure at this point which one of them I'll have to ask for permission to have them back.

They seem to be doing a fine job creating Jerry Springer style memories all on their own.

Although, a difficult road, the love they have is classically beautiful.

This story contains M/M, M/F and M/F/M sex scenes.  It also contains mild BDSM aspects (floggers, restraints).  It is not a dark book and does not focus on BDSM.  As I said before, it it mostly about the relationship between the 3 main characters.

I enjoyed all the books in this series, but I especially liked the Zeke and Jeff scenes in this one.  Also I'm looking forward to Liam's book.

This is a 4 with a caveat...I really like this series. I have enjoyed each of the books. I was enjoying this one...until the thing towards the end where I feel like someone completely overreacted and really needed his/her ass kicked. But no, they had to go and make my favorite feel like shit. Boo.

Saffron - Isthmus Alliance is a pretty great series if you ask me.

Noemi - I completely agree! It's also a great intro to the softer side of BDSM.

Jillian - I really like the BDSM side of these books. Sloan did an amazing job with that.

Saffron - I know that's one of the things that Sloan has tried to do with this series is just get readers to see that there are actual functioning relationships that happen.

Jillian - You rarely hear about relationships like this in books when we know they truly exist. I for one wouldn't mind being in the middle of the hot sandwich.

Noemi - OMG I swear the hot action short circuited my kindle lol. Dr. Jeff is just so yum!

Jillian - I know. I love his dominance and how he just takes control.

Saffron - A triad is definitely not for me, but if it works, it works! Who am I to judge? I think I could only handle them one on one.

Jillian - It would be fun to try though

Noemi - Just call it research ha ha.

Saffron - Ummmmmm.... moving along...LOL

Jillian - Lots and lots of research. I do have to say I love their connection and devotion. After Mary's accident they were really forced to see their relationship for more than what they thought it was.

Saffron - The story definitely started off with a bang and the whole group together.

Noemi - Well it picked up right where Unexpected Protector finished. I'm glad it did cuz it answered what happened.

Jillian - It really did. Complete chaos from the jump.

Saffron - There was so much that could have gone wrong, that's for sure! And Jeff and Zeke trying to explain who they were to Mary...

Jillian - That had to be both hard and frustrating. They really didn't know if they were her boyfriends but they had no choice but to say they were.

Noemi - It was also difficult because people aren't accepting of different types of relationships

Jillian - Then Jeff and Zeke kept getting caught getting caught up in the moment.

Saffron - Those two sure had a lot to think about when Mary wasn't around.

Jillian - At least they had each other to lean on. Well, at least till they had to deal with Loretta.

Noemi - Oh boy was she a piece of work.

Saffron - No words for her! She was trouble from the get-go!

Jillian - I don't know how Mary dealt with that woman all her life. I would do insane!

Saffron - I agree. I wouldn't have been able to deal. And I can put up with a lot of crazy.

Jillian - She was beyond crazy.

Saffron - But despite all that, Mary didn't seem to let it affect her relationships. Aside from the guys, she did try to have friendships with the girls.

Noemi - She wasn't going to let her mom mess-up a good thing.

Jillian - She knew how to handle her like a champ. I was so happy when she went off on her and made her leave. She needed to go.

Saffron - There were very few people who seemed to have a problem with their relationship. Zeke had a hard time letting people know, but
again, who could blame him?

Jillian - When he finally started to let people know he found out there were more people that accepted it than not. All but the one person he really wanted to accept him and his way of life.

Noemi - I'm sure it was hard since it took him so long to accept it himself.

Saffron - Exactly! One thing I really liked was Blessed Tragedy showing up. Bringing in people from another book is always cool. Like they're guest stars or something.

Jillian - I like that too

Noemi - Crossovers are always great.

Jillian - It's like a guest appearance on your favorite show.

Saffron - And it was a good thing they were there. Well, good and bad. I mean, I think it forced Jeff to talk about his issue sooner. But the reason he had to sooner rather than later, maybe it wouldn't have happened if the band wasn't around? Hard to say.

Jillian - I really think he needed that little push.

Noemi – So true. But I feel like if it had gone on longer it would have eaten at the relationship slowly. Jeff had to get it out so they could move on.

Saffron - They definitely needed it taken care of for their relationship.

Noemi - This was a great read and I can't wait to see what Sloan comes up with next. I gave it 4 stars.

Jillian - I enjoyed this book. I give it 4 Stars.

Saffron - I also gave it 4 stars. It wasn't my favorite of the series, but it didn't disappoint at all. I think everyone needs to read these to see the other side of BDSM relationships.

As the third book in the Isthmus Alliance series many of the relationships and interconnections are already underway. That's definitely the case for the ménage relationship between Mary, Jeff, and Zeke. Until now, they saw their relationship as merely fun. But when Mary is severely injured in an accident things change for all of them and what they have can no longer be thought of as just friends with benefits. They realize how important they are to each other and decide to fully commit to what they have, which leads to a lot of heartache along the way from those outside their relationship and the adjustments they have to make within their relationship so everyone feels equal.

With many of the book series I read the books can be read as a standalone, and for the most part that's the case here. However, the early parts of the book rely heavily on events that took place in previous installments. A lot of time is spent with secondary characters trying to help them reach their HEA that it became a bit frustrating. I wanted to have the ménage relationship the focus and felt a lot of time was spent elsewhere that dragged this book out unnecessarily. Seeing previous characters isn't completely bad though as it now makes me want to go back and read the other books in this series.

Mary is a strong-willed woman who's been in a ménage before that ended badly. She doesn't want the same mistakes to happen again and sets forth a plan to make sure they all find time to strengthen their individual connections as well as the whole. She deals with their relationship in a believable way pointing out things that we readers wonder about in real life. She's a good balance to the boys as she's cheery and forthcoming in her feelings as opposed to their seriousness and fears of coming out to the world. I see her as the glue in their ménage and quite liked her protective nature in defense of them both throughout the story. Jeff is a very serious-minded, buttoned-up man, and the one who likes to talk things out. He hides tats under his dress shirts though and is clearly a Dom having no problem showing his aggressive side in many sensual situations. He doesn't believe in love or commitment though after seeing his parent's marriage implode over alcohol which causes a rift late in the story between him and Zeke. Getting him to admit his love is difficult but richly rewarding when it finally happens. Zeke is the bad boy with his piercings, t-shirts, and biker boots but has a surprisingly sweet side that has him playing the caretaker role beautifully. He tends to speak before he thinks, but in this case he's having difficulty telling his overly religious family about his new relationship. The author does an admirable job using bible verses to contradict the often venomous speeches heard today to again put a believable spin on ménage relationships in a seamless way that's not at all preachy and I give her big kudos for her handling of this issue. Seeing the differences between these three characters shows how perfectly they blend with each one bringing something unique to their relationship. You can clearly see why they're only complete when together and this fact adds to the already steamy scenes. Both together and in individual couplings there's a sense of rightness and a give and take that's apparent in both the sweetly sensual interludes as well as the aggressive BDSM encounters.

From start to finish Ms. Johnson has crafted a story that presents ménage relationships in a believable way, using arguments and actions that show them to be just as loving and committed as other relationships. There's a time to cheer when they stand together against the world united in their love. Though there were a few distractions courtesy of secondary characters I still found myself fully immersed in this relationship and rooting for their HEA. I enjoyed Ms. Johnson's balancing of steamy interludes and emotionally intense character development and interactions and recommend her to those looking for an erotic read with both style and substance!

My rating: 4.5 of 5 ⭐️

After an accident shook up what seemed an easy and fun, occasional three-way hook up, Zeke discovered how invested he had become in both Mary and Jeff. His involvement with Jeff is still new, and certainly not known to anyone around him, but he is finding it something he has come to need in his life, as much as his connection with Mary.

Having been relegated to the role of patient, Mary is not really complaining. Not when she is cared for by two very hot and attentive men. Her only frustration is, she can't be as active a participant as she would like. But being forced into this day to day interaction has shown her the beautiful possibilities of their unconventional relationship.

Not one to jump into things blindly, Jeff is all to aware of the potential pitfalls that are ahead. They all have a tremendous amount to lose if this should not work. And even if they decide they are ready to face the outside world, it may not be ready to accept them. In fact, between employers, family and friends, they may simply be torn apart....

******

Fabulous writing, well-thought through subject matter and amazing characters!!!

This is not an easy review to write, simply because I don't want to give too much away and so much of this story plays on an emotional level. What that means, though, I that the character development for all three main characters, Zeke, Mary and Jeff, is tremendous in my opinion. This story for them is not just about discovering each other, but about discovering themselves.

And in no one is that more clearly than in Zeke, who has been everyone's best friend and buddy, party man extra-ordinaire for so long, that he himself didn't spend much time thinking beyond that. In terms of settling down, starting a relationship. He certainly never saw himself in a relationship with a man, although he had wondered. Zeke is the most vulnerable of the three in the sense that he stands to lose the most in terms of friends and family. Not really trusting their reaction - when really he is not really trusting himself yet.

Mary, who is a little more used to an unconventional relationship, is the more pragmatic one. She approaches things in an almost organizational manner, to try and keep a healthy balance. Of course, with a background and family as hers, the need for some predictability and balance is understandable. She seems to spend a lot of time mediating. Although initially she appeared the most unaffected by their playful threesome, since the accident she has become its centre.

And finally Jeff, with the painfully clear vision, who almost sabotages his own happiness by being cautious. The baggage he carries has been carefully stowed away in the attic, where no one can get at it. But Jeff knows its there and the possible implications it has. He seems hesitant to fully give himself, afraid something might open up the attic door. And in doing creates a situation that is almost like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

A compelling story of three completely different personalities, drawn to each other to form a cohesive unit. Sloan Johnson's telling of this struggle to completion is incredibly insightful and refreshingly real. Her use of some mild domination and submission illustrates beautifully the dynamics in this triad relationship and her writing is fantastic!

✨Complex, revealing and luscious juggle for balance.✨

I'm a huge fan of Sloan Johnson's writing style. She has a way of effortlessly switching between points of view and interconnecting storylines, so there is never a dull moment in the text, and it seamlessly flows until the end. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed when book two was about Tommy; I wanted Zeke's story. He played such a pivotal and active role in Tasha and Dylan's story, and he was the awesome sidekick for Dylan, taking care of Tasha when Dylan needed him to and doing everything he could to keep Tasha safe. I should have known, though, that Sloan had big plans for Zeke!

Another aspect of Sloan's stories that works well is that they are character driven; there's still angst and hot sex scenes, but at the heart of her texts are the personal connections that are made and then the progression those relationships take. Book three in the Isthmus Alliance series focuses on Zeke, Mary, and Jeff. What starts off as strictly friends with benefits turns into so much more. After Mary gets injured in an accident due to Nick Romero's thirst for revenge, Zeke moves her into his apartment, and all three of them slowly start to figure out that their feelings are so much deeper than they thought. But new relationships can be tricky, especially one where three people are involved. This is a completely new experience for Zeke, and all three of them carry baggage from either their childhood or past relationships. There is going to be jealousy and missteps along the way, but ensuring one another's happiness is always at the forefront of Zeke, Mary, and Jeff's mind. All three of them are risking so much to be together: Zeke's mother is extremely religious, so he struggles with exposing their relationship not only to him but also to his best friends; Mary's past experience as a ménage couple left her heart shattered; Jeff's childhood was horrific, and he has a hard time telling Zeke and Mary about it, which almost tears them apart when similar circumstances arise. But, they are all willing to take the leap because they know that their relationship makes them whole...gives them so much more than they ever thought possible.

The fact that the Isthmus Alliance gang keeps expanding only adds to the series. As a reader, I want to be able to catch up with the other couples from the previous books and see how they're doing. Witnessing Dylan and Tasha as well as Tommy and Holly grow as couples and form new bonds with the supporting characters as well as new ones is what makes this an amazing series. Unexpected Consequences is a perfect title for Zeke, Mary, and Jeff's story, but in their case, the consequences of their actions are actually life changing in a good way.

Unexpected Consequences is a fantastic read that explores the ups and downs of making a triad relationship work. Readers witness the no strings relationship of Zeke, Mary, and Jeff turn into a committed connection that still involves hot sex but now it also allows for greater intimacy, and as their relationship grows, so do they, and it's a beautiful thing to witness.

Zeke, Jeff and Mary have enjoyed a casual three-way relationship until fate steps in and makes them evaluate whether what they are doing is just a bit of fun, or whether they are ready to settle down into a more serious relationship. Whilst they are trying to figure that out, the outside world seems determined to pull apart their unusual arrangement.

The plot is fairly straightforward. After Mary is attacked by the ex-boyfriend of her best friend, her dreadful mother arrives to look after her, and finds her daughter embroiled in what she sees as a very unsavoury situation. Meanwhile, Zeke is torn between wanting to settle with Mary and Jeff and doing his own thing. And Jeff, the steadying influence, is busy trying to keep everything together.

Recently I read a comment that most books concerning polyamorous relationships, especially those that are M/M/F, are basically erotica and have no story-line, but this is not the case at all for Unexpected Circumstances. Yes, the sex is hot, but it isn’t over-stated. Each main character is fully realised, with their own personalities and foibles, so they don’t merge into one being. The secondary characters are also convincingly drawn, apart from Mary’s mother, an obvious boo-hiss character so horrendous she verged on caricature. Somewhat oddly, she was dismissed in an off-hand fashion half-way through the book. I say oddly because after such a strong start, she was tucked away in Florida, conveniently out of the way. One of my favourite minor characters was Holly, a complex girl with an abusive ex and a supportive boyfriend. The author nailed her character with pin-point accuracy and for me, she was the most memorable in a large cast of satellite characters, all with their own problems.

In the end, what seems to be a huge drama is a misunderstanding. There’s a lot of angst, redeemed by the serious look at the relationship of the three protagonists, and the issues and prejudices that their situation throws out. And there are a lot of issues. The two men have the same love for each other as they do for the woman in their life. One of them isn’t fully out yet, and there are implications to their careers, their friendships and family members. I would have liked to have known more about how Mary felt, what her insecurities were. We learned Zeke’s and Jeff’s, but felt a little short-changed by Mary’s experiences, other than learning that she was incredibly satisfied in bed.

This is a long book, and it could have been tightened up a bit without losing any of its impact. I found I was skimming in places, then going back to see if I had missed anything. I hate doing this as it takes me out of the story. The dialogue could have been sharper as well, and the emotions less over-wrought in places, but the characters were likeable and I enjoyed reading about their dilemma and how they were going to deal with it.

This is part of a series, and I haven’t read the other books, but fans of Sloan’s writing will lap up this chunky read. For newbies, it might be a little hard to digest in places, but there is no denying the love that the author has for her characters, even as she’s throwing the proverbial kitchen sink at them.

When Sloan approached me to Beta read the third installment in the Isthmus Alliance series, I was dumfounded ... I couldn't believe she thought of me. Then of course, like the fan girl that I am, took less than half a second to respond that I would indeed be honored to give her my thoughts. And so here they are!

At the conclusion of Unexpected Protector I was an absolute wreck. I immediately got on Facebook to share my reaction with my friends and Sloan was one to respond and immediately shared my reaction with her page because she was tickled that she had ruined a fan reading her book. I absolutely loved Tommy and Holly's story and had to know what happened following that epic cliffhanger. Unexpected Consequences picks up where Protector left off with lives being in danger. I won't tell you exactly why, you'll need to read Protector to figure that out. But I absolutely adored the way that Jeff and Zeke took care of Mary in this situation and how they made sure their family and friends were safe in the end. The frustration that Zeke has toward Jeff for being able to be close to Mary at the hospital because of being a Psychiatrist there broke my heart for him. The tenderness that Jeff tries to show Zeke because of his frustration is heart warming and beautiful.

I hated two character's in this story in particular. Mary's mother and Zeke's mother, Deborah. Mary's mother because she's an over bearing pain in the ass. She can't just let Mary be. When she's needing pampering the most, her mother feels the need to stop the two men that are there for her always, from doing their job of protecting and taking care of her little girl. Then there is Zeke's mother. There are a few things I can't stand in this world (getting on my soap box for a minute) and that's religious zealots that spout scripture and hate from a book written by a group of self centered, religious men. Yes this may be one girls opinion but reading about it really peeves me off. Which, yes is the purpose of putting said characters in a book because they are needed to create turmoil and to try and set the seed of doubt in a character about who they are and who they love in particular. They both fit the bill of characters you love to hate and Sloan writes them well!

The story overall was absolutely wonderful. The one thing I had an issue with and I shared this with Sloan after completing the story, was that I felt the ending was a bit rushed. There was so much that happens between the three of these characters as their relationships with one another and as a threesome unfolds that I didn't feel any real closure when the thing I wanted to happen finally occurred. It almost felt forced. I will say I'm partial to Holly and Tommy in Unexpected Protector and I'm definitely looking forward to Dylan's brother's story because I just know there will be more of Tommy as his hatred toward Liam comes to a head. Sloan is fantastic at giving you just enough and leaving you begging for more. So please, ma'am, may I have some more?! Thank you for writing this amazing love story between Zeke, Jeff and Mary. I can't wait to see what their future holds!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Maybe the world is more ready for us than we are for the world.

So before this book, I had yet to read anything by Sloan Johnson. Not from lack of wanting to, mind you, but we all know how everlasting TBR’s can be. I am one of those people that even when an author says it can be read as a standalone, if it is part of a series, I just CANNOT do that. I HAVE to read them in order. It’s one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to books. I NEED to know the back story. That being said, I carved out enough time in my schedule to fit in all three books. I needn’t have worried about not having enough time to finish, because these books were SO good, I literally FLEW through them! Sloan touches on BDSM in these books, and the men are most definitely Alphas, but at the heart of them all is just that…heart. And it is a beautiful thing to read.

“That would imply we were doing something wrong. And that was anything but wrong.”

I think what I loved about this book the most is that while there was HOT sex, and plenty of it, it wasn’t JUST about that. It was about the relationship between Mary, Zeke, and Jeff. Yes, you read that right; there are three people involved. This is not my first ménage book by a long shot, but it is one of the few that I’ve read where an actual relationship was being worked on. Many people shake their head and look at triad relationships as immoral, but I figure you cannot help who you love, and if you have more love to spread around, what is the harm in that? These were three people that to their core, loved each other deeply. They were all different in so many ways, but it was their commonalities and differences that cemented their union. It was their honesty with each other that kept me coming back for more. It was the way they could see, without even a word being spoken, when one needed something. Unspoken words screamed volumes, and they grew attuned to it in one another. I absolutely adored this book!

Together in the darkness, our bodies find a languid, steady rhythm, sealing our fate to one another without a single word.

The characters, ALL of them, were extremely relatable and I couldn't get enough. The dominance of Jeff, the gentleness of Zeke, and the level head of Mary; they were three pieces of a well crafted puzzle that just fit. I also loved that while it was a typically unconventional relationship, it certainly didn’t read like one. They all faced problems and dealt with issues that would arise in ANY relationship, and I think it speaks volumes towards the literary prowess of the author to be able to not only portray that, but to portray it so well. Sloan Jonson has cemented me as a fan for life, and I will always come back for more!

I absolutely LOVE this Isthmus Alliance series by Sloan Johnson! We were her blog review for Unexpected Angel and have been hooked since! The series storyline as a whole just keeps getting better and better and you will not want to miss the individual story with Zeke, Jeff and Mary! Yep… it’s a freakin’ hot triad!!

Unexpected Consequences starts right where Unexpected Protector leaves off and boy, does your heart race trying to figure out what exactly happened, to whom, and where do we go from here. This story is from all three of their points of view so you get to know exactly what they’re thinking!

I love their dynamic, it’s not exactly what you would call “normal” but how can you love just one person when your heart belongs to two and they all feel that way. It’s not just one or two of the three that are all about the triad, it’s all of them. They each make an effort to make this work, despite their professional careers and family morals. When you’re in love, it shouldn’t matter to anybody else right?

This is an emotional story that plays with all of the characters with the case against Tasha’s ex that seems to just continue on but also Zeke, Jeff and Mary’s relationship and their struggles to overcome society’s perception. Since these hot alphas of the Isthmus Alliance are Doms, of course there are some pretty hot, hot, hot and sexy scenes. I mean, there is no way to describe the sexiness other than you just have to read it for yourself because it really is sensual, yet erotic and just plain panty melting!

Each book in the series progresses – Dylan was super sweet and gentle with Tasha. Tommy stepped up the Dominance and perfectly molded Holly into his sub and helping her out physically, mentally and emotionally in the journey to her recovery. Now Zeke, Jeff and Mary, well that’s a hard one. Zeke thought of himself as a Dom, Mary liked to play in the Alliance and used whips and floggers to make a masterpiece of art, and Jeff has a natural Dominance to him, that’s why he worked so well as Holly’s doctor, so with a three-way relationship, who’s the Dom and who’s the sub? They each play their role to figure that out and what works for them, which just adds to their steaminess!

Again, this is a fantastic read and a job well-done Sloan! Unexpected Consequences is definitely my FAVORITE in the Isthmus Alliance series! HOPEFULLY we’ll get more! Dylan’s brother, Liam is still around so maybe we’ll get his story??? On a side note, I read this story at the end of January and still absolutely LOVE and remember what happened in UC!

**JOSIE'S REVIEW**

This is book 3 in this series and it’s Zeke, Mary and Jeff’s story.

I have read all the books in this series and fell in love with Tasha, Dylan, Holly and Tommy, so I was anxious to read the next in this series.

This book is about acceptance, new relationships and unions.

Zeke is a playboy who wants more and keeps his distant from those who will not accept his way of life. He has a woman in and out of his condo and does not do relationships. He is also keeping a secret from his family and friends.

Jeff is a psychologist with a past that has scarred him, and keeps him from sharing his life.

Mary is a strong woman. When she’s mixed together with these two men, it forces each of them to reevaluate their lives. Due to an unexpected misfortune she helps both of them profess their feelings for each other. She makes them admit that it was more than just the occasional sexual encounter. So as you guessed this is about a ménage. It is hot, lots of angst, emotional and different.

This book has everything a book should have…love, bondage, BDSM facets, loving relationships and a strong bond between a group of friends. This type of relationship is not accepted in society, so this story gets raw. Jeff’s career can be jeopardize, Zeke’s family will not understand his bisexual tendencies and Mary’s mother is a beotch.

What I liked the most was Mary. She is strong for each of them and sets the terms of their relationship on how things should and should not go. This not your regular arrangement.

I will say some family members and friends are not that accepting of this relationship and the fact that it was kept a secret. In order for their relationship to work, they will have to fight for acceptance in everyday life, deal with their past demons and forge a bond of a 3 way relationship. Things are not easy for them and it gets harder when the pressure of everyday life starts to play on their minds.

We get to see characters from the previous series…Holly, Tommy, Dylan and Tasha. Holly is still moving forward from her past and how she is growing and learning her place in life. Dylan and Tasha are my favorite couple and they have a announcement. We also get to see some of Liam and I am hoping we get to see more of him in another book (Possibly Book 4)? Each book in this series gives us a HEA but I love the fact that we still get to see characters we love from the past and we get to see unresolved issues settled.

Holy Hotness Batman!! Good lord. All I'm going to say is that there were a few scenes in this book that had me thinking that maybe my husband and I needed to add a third person into our relationship. WOW!

Unexpected Consequences started a few minutes before the end of Unexpected Protector. That was one hell of a cliffhanger and I am really quite glad that those moments weren't glossed over as a retelling of events from someone else's POV. While we aren't seeing the events through Liam's eyes again, we see it through the eyes of Zeke and Jeff.

I was completely taken aback when I learned about the relationship between Zeke, Jeff, & Mary. They were completely masterful at keeping it a secret. The more that I learned about it the more I loved it. The three of them worked perfectly together. It was definitely a case of love being multiplied, rather than divided, by the added member of the relationship.

While there was drama in this book: in the form of the players having to overcome troublesome pasts, family members, and going public, the drama level wasn't quite as high as it was with the first two books in the series. I am glad for that though. There was so much going on with Zeke, Jeff, & Mary trying to figure out how to make their relationship work that the addition of outside crazy would have just been too much.

We also got to get a glimpse into the lives of Dylan & Tasha and Tommy & Holly, so we know how they are doing as well. There was also a great surprise concerning characters from a completely different series (not from Sloan) that added that much more to this book.

I really an quite happy with this book. I was very intrigued by Zeke in the first two books now I feel like I know him so much better and am very happy with his story. I am still looking forward to learning about the rest of the Alliance as I know they all have huge stories to tell!

BONUS: This book is not a cliffhanger, THANK GOD!! I'm not sure I could have handled another one after Unexpected Protector.

Unexpected Consequences is the 3rd book in the Isthmus Alliance. I have read the first 2 and loved them. The character development and plot in each of them was great. They took me in and left me wanting for more. I was very excited to read this book and jumped at the chance to read it.

This is the story of Mary, Jeff and Zeke. Three members of the Alliance that were in in for a good time. After a hit and run leaves Mary in the hospital, the game changes and all three see that this more of a game of convenience. There are feelings there that they did not expect. With that, bring the general ignorance of society and with that the work that comes with keeping up a healthy relationship that you feel with your being, and the way that society thinks relationships should be.

I have to say that I was generally confused by the beginning of this book. It basically takes place right where Unexpected Protector leaves off. I don't remember any mention of Mary, Jeff and Zeke hitting it off or having any kind of tryst in UP. I knew that they were going to be together after reading the synopsis, but as for following it in the story it was not there for me. After I got used the them being together and getting to know them, it got a little better. I loved them individually, but I always felt like it was Mary and Jeff or Mary and Zeke. I got that there was a relationship with Zeke and Jeff, but I never really felt that part of the relationship until the very end of the book. I loved that Mary is very dedicated to those that she loves and will stick up for those that are important to her. You see that many times throughout the book. Zeke took me by surprise. In the other books he is the ultimate Alpha Male, but in this book you see the unlimate softer side of Zeke. He is very dedicated to his friends for whom are his family and in the end that made the differance in his all the more better.

Zeke is that good bad boy. Never wanting to settle down, always having someone new. He also likes to have fun and lately that fun has been with Mary and Jeff. Wanting more than just casual fun, Zeke is scared of what he is feeling. He always liked to keep his relationships or whatever you would call them at arm’s length. The further away he keeps them, his heart would remain protected and intact.

While things have been hot behind closed doors, Zeke finds himself wanting more. He wants a future a future with both Jeff and Mary. Loving one person is hard enough but when you have two in the mix, it changes the dynamics of things not only for himself, but for the ones he cares for and of course there is the little problem of telling his family.

When a tragic accident occurs, it brings the three of them closer than ever but it is also put their relationship to the test. Zeke isn’t sure he is strong enough or brave enough to deal with the strong emotions he is feeling but he also knows he can’t lose them.

To see the three of them struggle to find the right dynamic of their relationship. The sex is HOT and beyond amazing *fansselfoff* I loved seeing the struggle that Zeke felt with both Mary and then with Jeff. To watch them come together and fit perfectly was even more amazing.
Sloan Johnson did such a beautiful job in creating this HOT ménage relationship.

Each character brought something beautiful to the relationship. Honestly, it just doesn’t work without all three of them.

This story has it all from facing your demons and fears to acceptance with some heartache but mostly love. Oh and did I mention how freaking hot the scene between Zeke and Jeff was? I mean DAYUM!!!

Sloan has done such a fantastic job with the Isthmus Alliance series. The characters all have such a wonderful dynamic. I cannot wait to see what she has coming to us readers next.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

After reading Unexpected Protector, I was jumping at the bit to get my hands on this book. It picked up right where Unexpected Protector left off. I loved seeing where all the characters ended up and knowing that everyone got their HEA. Okay, enough about that. Now, about this wonderful book.
Let’s start with the main characters. Zeke, I just loved him. He was just looking for the place where he belonged. Mary was a very strong character and had confidence in her men throughout their ups and downs. Jeff was a take charge guy with definite ideas about certain issues. He was set in his ways and stubborn.
This book pulled on my heartstrings in so many different places. I felt for all three characters. They had so many obstacles placed in their way that I wasn’t always sure they’d come out on top in the end. I loved how Zeke “came out” to his family. That was one of the funniest and most heartbreaking scenes in the whole book. It definitely showed how some people can be very closed minded about different types of relationships. Mary’s mother was a hoot also. I was constantly surprised by her actions and couldn’t understand how she’d hurt her daughter the way she did. Jeff’s past kept him from really opening up to his lovers. I hated that. I hated his mentality of never having something lasting. The one thing I did miss in the book was that Mary never had to explain to the boys about her past triad relationship. She kept thinking about it, but I don’t remember her ever talking about it with Jeff or Zeke.
Overall, I loved this book. However, if you don’t like M/M, it’s not the book for you. This is the story of 2 men and 1 woman in a committed relationship. It was sexy, it was raunchy, and it is definitely a must read for likers of this genre.

Zeke has never been one for getting to close to people. He doesn't do the love thing and tries his best to keep away from that. He has a special friendship with Jeff and Mary. They have a no strings attached deal and it was working fine for them. They keep it a secret and no one knows and no one can get hurt. That all changes when they all have to take a look at what they have going on and try to decide if they all three want to take another step and try to have a relationship. People try to give them a hard time but the three have something wonderful. They just need to talk things out before the no talking tears them apart.

At first I will say I was a little confused at who was who and what was going on. However as soon as I got into these characters head I was on a roll reading this delightful book. Jeff and Zeke are to way different guys but they clearly belong together. Mary has wiggled her way into their what you would call friends with benefits. She is like the glue that keeps them all together. While they might not have a conventional relationship they have something many people dream of having. Both Jeff and Zeke are very hot and what person wouldn't want them. Mary is so sweet sounding but can be fierce when the need be. They all have to work things out and see how it is going to work and they have a long road ahead of them. I love reading about all of them and getting to know them. They face a lot and something is always trying to get under their skin from family to friends to set backs they can't see coming. I also love the hotness of this book. It doesn't matter if it is all three of them or just two they all know how to steam the pages of. I really enjoyed all the different aspects of this book and would recommend to anyone who likes M/M or M/F/M books. It has a great cast of characters.

Well first off if you have not read the first TWO books in this series you need to. You don't really have to I guess but it is a great series and you will know more about the characters and just get a much better feel for all the characters. So if you haven't already go get Unexpected Angel (with the gorgeous Alfie aka Dylan on the cover) and Unexpected Protector.

Now, Unexpected Consequences is a wonderful book. It is hot, sexy, a little sad, a little funny but totally wonderful. I have loved Zeke since the first book. Not, just because he is sex on legs but because I loved the way he ways with Tasha and became the friend that she really needed. Anyway, then came Jeff. Mmmmm Dr. Jeff.
Also, sex on legs and so smooth. All I can say about Mary is that lady is sooo lucky. ;) It also has all the favorites like Dylan, Tasha, Tommy, Holly and even some of my favorites from H.B. Heinzer's Blessed Tragedy series. Which was really cool and unexpected.

I loved the story line and it was well written. The emotions were great and you could feel them in every line. There were times that I felt sorry for Mary and wanted to just step in the book and be her friend. Same thing with Tommy and Jeff. The story of these three just made it hard not to fall in love with them a little more. I was a little nervous about reading it because honestly it is way off from what I normally read but I loved it and was so wrapped up in the feeling and story that it just hooked me.

Even if you aren't sure you would want to read something like this give it a try. You can read the first few chapters on Amazon and I know once you do you will want to finish the story. It hooks you right from the start.
