CUDDALORE: The first unit of thermal power station-I expansion at
Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) would be commissioned in February, said
NLC chairman cum managing director B Surender Mohan on Sunday. The second unit would be commissioned in March.
Unfurling the tricolor at the Republic Day celebrations at the corporation, Surender Mohan said the first unit of the joint venture project,
NLC Tamil Nadu Power Limited (
NTPL), would also be commissioned in February and the second unit would be commissioned in May.
“Fuel supply agreement for NTPL was signed with
Mahanadi Coal Fields of
Coal India on September 24 last year,” he said.
He said NLC had launched pre-project site activities for the 2 x 500 MW
Neyveli New Thermal Power Project (
NNTPP). “The contracts for the two main packages have been awarded and tender finalization for the remaining package is in the advanced stage. Unit-I is expected to be commissioned in August 2017 and unit-II in February 2018,” he said.
He said mine-I and mine-IA were being restructured at a capital outlay of Rs 1,458.17 crore. Lignite production from the two mines is expected to commence in June, 2015. The mines will supply fuel to the NNTPP.
The NLC has commenced pre-project activities and identified the site for office for the 3 x 660MW coal-based
Ghathampur Thermal Power project (GTPP). Environmental clearance for
GTPP and forestry clearance for coal mines development in the allotted coal block at Pachwara South would be obtained soon, he said.
The NLC has started pursuing in-principle approval for allocation of land for 4,000MW coal-based
Sirkali Thermal Power Project (
STPP) in
Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu. The coal reserve for the project has been allotted in
Jilga-Barpalli coal block of
Chhattisgarh.
The NLC proposes to set up a 51MW
wind power farm at
Kaluneerkulam in
Tirunelveli district and a 10MW
solar power plant at Neyveli and 10MW solar power plant at
Barsingsar.
With the implementation of the above new projects, the power generation capacity of the corporation will increase from the present 2,740MW to 11,195MW and lignite production from the present 30.6 million tonne to 38.85 million tonne per annum.
He said the corporation had initiated recruitment process to fill up OBC vacancies. He said the corporation had inducted 4,219 contract workers in the NLC
Indcoserve society. “The common seniority list of contract workers has been published according to the Supreme Court directives,” he said.
Surender Mohan and his wife honoured the seniormost worker of the corporation, N Periyasamy, and his wife, P Lakshmi.
