Description

This is a 7th Grade English Language Arts lesson to help middle school students understand how to engage an audience during a speech and what types of texts are used for what purposes in the professional working world.

The lesson begins with a Stop and Jot followed by metaphor for the importance of engaging an audience during a speech. The lesson includes a "Tips and Tricks" chart with the most common ways to engage an audience followed by 5 multiple choice questions. Then, there is a transition/ hook activity to get students ready for Work-Related Texts. An annotation strategy is outlined for this type of question followed by 9-multiple choice questions.

The lesson begins with with a quick reference chart defining what each of the 3 standards. There are 19 multiple-choice questions followed by a 4-question Exit Ticket to assess mastery.

All answers are included in Microsoft Comments. The Zip file includes a PDF student copy, PDF teacher copy, and a Microsoft Word document.
