Moose goes through windshield of SUV filled with college students

UPPER PENINSULA -- A group of college students escaped injury when their SUV recently struck a large moose.

The moose was killed.

State Department of Natural Resources conservation officers, in a bi-weekly report, noted that an officer responded to the crash near King Lake in Baraga County, west of Marquette.

Conservation Officer David Muller reported the adult bull moose went through the small SUV's windshield and took off part of the roof.

But every air bag functioned and protected the students.

Muller noted that the moose "was salvaged and distributed to families in need."

The date of the crash was not stated, but the reports cover the last few days of September through Oct. 10.
