Mulder and Scully are bringing dial-up back.

X-Files stars David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully) stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday to tease the upcoming return of the long-running sci-fi series, which happens to be one of Kimmel’s favorites. But it’s been over 13 years since Mulder and Scully were last on television. Times have changed.

And, in a sketch Kimmel framed as a scene from the revival, Mulder and Scully are just trying to keep up. Duchovny and Anderson, wearing slapped-on wigs more suited to the show’s early years, play up the idea that their characters haven’t seen the light of day since the age of Pogs. When Kimmel shows up as mandatory new partner “Agent Keith,” Scully calls it in to Skinner — on a phone with an antenna too big for the room.

“Do people still like us?” she asks when informed that it’s not the ’90s anymore.

“Oh yeah, of course,” Kimmel says. “We loved you then, and we love you now. And even if coming back turns out to be a bad idea — like a really, really bad idea that makes everyone hate you — we’ll still always have the ’90s.”

“Also,” he adds on behalf of fans everywhere, “you two should have sex.”

“It’s been like 23 years. Everybody knows.”

Duchovny and Anderson — er, Mulder and Scully — proceed to passionately make out on a table, ordering Keith to “f— off” when he suggests that this isn’t the best time.

No matter what happens in the revival, we’ll always have Keith.

The X-Files returns Jan. 24 on Fox.
