R&R's 'Judas' drama to examine redemption
By reputation, lots of lawyers might be in Fabiana Cunningham's shoes.
"I think she truly believes that she is going to Hell, and it's a struggle she's trying to work through," said Emmy Estes, who plays the attorney in "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot."
The play, which dramatizes a trial determining where Judas will spend eternity, opens at 8 p.m. Friday at R&R Backroom, 701 S. Georgia St., running Fridays and Saturdays through Aug. 30.
"Is there a point in somebody's life that you can do something so bad that you can't get into heaven?" Estes said, summarizing the play's theme.
"I liked the real-world spin that it puts on these characters from the Bible," director Cy Scroggins said. "It is controversial, but I also liked it because I think it has a pro-religious message to it."
The play runs 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Aug. 29 and 30. Admission is $10.
