HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police are searching for a man who they say tried to run down an officer in the Red Hill area.

Police believe the man was driving a stolen vehicle.

The incident happened on Moanalualani Place around 11 a.m. Police say the officer fired a shot and hit the driver side door. It is unknown if the suspect was hit. Police have notified area hospitals to be on the lookout for a gunshot victim.

Police describe the vehicle as a gold Toyota Camry with the license plate FVT-822. The vehicle was reported stolen Wednesday from the Pearl City/Aiea area. "This was the same vehicle involved in a previous break-in in the Kalihi area about an hour earlier," says Capt. Richard Schaab.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, bald, wearing sunglasses and a long-sleeve orange shirt. The car was seen heading westbound on the H-1 Freeway.

The officer, a 23-year veteran of the force was taken to the hospital for observation with a hip injury.
