Rock the Rec Set for Tuesday, Oct. 28

The basketball preseason pep rally is slated for 7 p.m. at the Rec IM


YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics will be throwing the second annual 'Rock the Rec' pep rally. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Olds/Robb Student Recreation/Intramural Complex on the campus of Eastern Michigan. With basketball season just around the corner, the pep rally is designed to encourage school spirit leading into the men's and women's 2014-15 campaign.

All are welcome to attend for free and encouraged to come early for music, entertainment and some special Halloween "treats." The event promptly begins at 7 p.m. with team introductions and is expected to go until 8:30 p.m. The residence hall on campus with the most students in attendance will win a hall-wide pizza party, courtesy of EMU Athletics. Residence Hall winners will be announced at the conclusion of the event.

"Our staff and student-athletes are looking forward to an exciting evening with our students and community," said EMU Head Men's Basketball Coach Rob Murphy. "Rock the Rec gives everyone the invite to meet and greet both basketball programs while having lots a fun with a Halloween twist."

'Rock the Rec' will include many different events, including a Halloween costume contest. The winner will be chosen by the men's basketball team and receive $300 to Meijer, while the runner-up will take home $100 to the EMU Bookstore and third-place will earn $50 to the bookstore. Other giveaways and promotions include: Insomnia Cookies, Jimmy Johns sandwiches, pizza for the first 200 guests, men's and women's basketball posters, halloween candy, and Eastern beanies.

There will be live entertainment for the evening, while both the men's and women's teams will take part in 12-minutes scrimmages. The event will also feature a three-point contest between a men's and women's basketball players, a dunk contest between the men's basketball players, and special performances from both the cheerleading squad and the dance team.
