The Baylor University football signs around Waco directing motorists to Floyd Casey Stadium will be taken down this week in preparation for games at the new McLane Stadium.
The signs will be stored until the city decides what to do with them.
Sherry Martin, the city’s purchasing department’s program supervisor, said she has been fielding calls from fans trying to buy the signs, but the purchasing department will only receive them if they aren’t being repurposed.
City spokesman Larry Holze said if the signs are in good condition they will be reused. They will be sold only if they can’t be recycled.
The city is unsure how many of the Floyd Casey Stadium signs are out there.
Ray Panneton, a 2010 Baylor graduate who now works as a lawyer in Houston, said he would be willing to pay several hundred dollars for a sign to go with the rest of his vintage Baylor football collection.

As a student, Panneton said he tried to attend every home game at Floyd Casey and would peruse antique shops on weekends for relics of Baylor football.
Because the team wasn’t doing well in the years he attended, Panneton said he found lots of Baylor antiques, such as pins from the Peach Bowl in 1979 when the Bears defeated Clemson, 24-18.
“I think it tells a rich history of Baylor football. Back when they were at the top of the heap, back at the bottom and now here we are at the top again,” Panneton said.
Diego De Valdenebro, a 2009 Baylor alumnus who teaches math in Dallas, said he loves the vintage look of the sign and would want to have one as memorabilia of his time at Baylor.
“I love those things, they look so cool,” he said.
Caleb Marsh, a 1999 Baylor graduate, is more concerned about supporting his team while in enemy territory.
Marsh works at Southern Methodist University as the director of pre-health advising and said he wanted the sign to hang in his office.
“I love to taunt my coworkers,” Marsh said.
