FreeRTOS™ Real Time Kernel

Developed in partnership with the world's leading chip companies over more than a decade, FreeRTOS is the market leading real time operating system (or RTOS), and the de-facto standard solution for microcontrollers and small microprocessors.

With millions of deployments in all market sectors, blue chip corporations trust FreeRTOS because it is professionally developed, strictly quality controlled, robust, fully supported, free to use in commercial products without a requirement to expose proprietary source code, and has no IP infringement risk.

FreeRTOS offers lower project risks and a lower total cost of ownership than commercial alternatives because:

  • It is fully supported and documented.
  • Most people take products to market without ever contacting us, but with the complete peace of mind that they could opt to switch to a fully indemnified commercial license (with dedicated support) at any time.
Commercial licenses are provided by our official safety engineering partner company - WITTENSTEIN high integrity systems, a global engineering company with >1500 employees.

FreeRTOS+Nabto - Worlds Most Innovative IoT Solution

Real Time Engineers Ltd have partnered with Nabto to develop FreeRTOS+Nabto, a product that brings simplicity, platform independence, inclusive cloud hosting services, and entry level access to Nabto's peer to peer Internet of Things solution.

FreeRTOS+Nabto is a small piece of code (20KBytes including FreeRTOS and networking stack) that, when integrated into an embedded networked device, allows that device to be remotely accessed and controlled using a rich web based user interface or intelligent data acquisition system.

Each Internet of Things (IoT) device has a unique URL for automatic location over the Internet, and the technology allows secure, authenticated and extremely low bandwidth peer to peer connections to be established even when the device is deployed behind a NAT firewall. FreeRTOS+Nabto enabled IoT devices are even accessible over a local network in the absence of Internet connectivity.

The cloud infrastructure enables IoT devices to be accessed through a rich user interface running in a web browser or smart phone app - the IoT device only supplies the live data components of the interface, which it does using a light weight UDP protocol.

FreeRTOS+Nabto, combined with FreeRTOS's special low power features, makes FreeRTOS a natural choice for implementing the Internet of Things.

FreeRTOS+Trace

FreeRTOS+TraceTM is a best-in-class and sophisticated trace tool for FreeRTOS. With more than 20 graphically interconnected views, FreeRTOS+Trace provides a world leading level of insight into the run-time behaviour of your FreeRTOS application. It has become an indispensable debugging and optimisation tool.

FreeRTOS+TCP

FreeRTOS+TCP is a scalable, open source and thread safe TCP/IP stack for FreeRTOS.

FreeRTOS+TCP provides a familiar and standards based Berkeley sockets interface, making it as simple to use and as quick to learn as possible. An alternative callback interface is also available for advanced users.

FreeRTOS+TCP's features and RAM footprint are fully scalable, making FreeRTOS+TCP equally applicable to smaller lower throughput microcontrollers as larger higher throughput microprocessors.

FreeRTOS+FAT SL

FreeRTOS+FAT SL ("S"uper "L"ean) is a market proven, DOS compatible, proprietary and supported FAT file system provided by HCC Embedded to Real Time Engineers Ltd for use with FreeRTOS or in bare metal systems.

FreeRTOS+FAT SL is intricately engineered to minimise both Flash and RAM footprint, allowing the same code base to be used across a wide range of 8, 16 and 32-bit MCUs.

FreeRTOS+CLI

FreeRTOS+CLI (Command Line Interface) provides a simple, small, extensible and RAM efficient method of enabling your FreeRTOS application to process command line input.
