ERIE, Colo. – The HBU men's golf team tied for fifth place after the final round Tuesday of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational at 7,771-yd, par-72 Colorado National Golf Club. The tournament was supposed to be three rounds but troublesome weather conditions allowed for only 36 holes instead of 54.
Senior
Trey Cassity shot a 2-over par-74 in the second round, including four birdies. Cassity tied for 15
th at 143 along with junior
Isaiah Huerta who fired an even par-72. Huerta had a second straight round with three birdies. Senior
Preston Stanley scored a 1-over par-73, firing six birdies and tying for 29
th place with 147. Senior
Brandon Wilhide also shot a 73 to finish one stroke behind Stanley, climbing 15 spots to tie for 39
th place. Freshman
Raul Hernandez carded an 80 in the final round, tying for 70
th with 153.
The host, Colorado, remained in first place after a second round score of 280 to end with a team 20-under par-556. San Diego scored a 281 and climbed two spots to finish second at 568. Denver kept third place, just one stroke behind San Diego following a final round of 285. Missouri-Kansas City fell to fourth place following a score of 292 ending with a final score of 574. Utah State carded a second of 289, climbing four spots to tie for fifth with Houston Baptist at 579. HBU had a final round of 292.
Colorado's David Oraee fired a 5-under par-67 to keep first place at 13-under par-131. Denver's Petter Mikalsen also fired a 67 to finish in second with 136. Calvin Freeman, Mathias Dahl, and Mitch Tucker all tied for third place with 5-under par-139.
The Huskies return to competition October 13-14 for the Rice and Sam Houston State Miramont Invitational at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas.
