Francesco Totti thanked Manchester City for 'giving him luck' to break his scoring duck in England.

As the Blues welcomed Roma to Manchester through their Twitter account, they reminded the Serie A side that the captain had never scored away against a Premier League side.

That duly changed on Tuesday night as Totti equalised with a delicate chip to give Rudi Garcia's side a vital point in the hunt for Champions League qualification.

Speaking after the game, the Roma captain gave a nod to the good-natured jibe on social media.

“City’s tweet? It really brought me luck,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It was a beautiful goal and a good performance.

“I really wanted to score as soon as possible as I had not found the back of the net this season.

“But above all, I am thrilled for my team because we have shown a lot of strength, which was not easy.”
