NCAA DIII TF All-Academic TeamsDIII Track & Field Scholar Teams of the Year & All-Academic Teams Announced
NEW ORLEANS – Scholar Team of the Year and All-Academic Team honors for the 2013-14 Division III Track & Field Season were announced Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The UW-La Crosse men were named Scholar Team of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons for the second year in a row, while the indoor national champion UW-Oshkosh women and the outdoor national champion Wartburg women earned the Scholar Team of the Year awards for their respective seasons.
It is the third consecutive outdoor Scholar Team of the Year award for Wartburg, and the second consecutive indoor award for UW-Oshkosh.
As the highest-placing teams with at least a 3.10 cumulative team grade point average at this season’s indoor and/or outdoor NCAA Division II Championships, these teams stood out among 158 women’s teams and 93 men’s programs that combined academic and athletic achievement to earn All-Academic Team honors this season.

UW-La Crosse’s men won the indoor national title and finished runner-up at the outdoor championships, and in both instances posted the best finish among teams that earned All-Academic Team honors with their cumulative 3.13 team GPA.
The Eagles were well ahead of the field indoors with a 15½ point win over rival UW-Eau Claire, 63½ – 48 to win their second national team title in a row, but were unable to defend their outdoor team crown with a five-point loss to Mount Union, 47-42.
UW-La Crosse led all men’s teams in DIII with 17 individuals who earned All-Academic distinctions. The award indoors is its fourth in the past five years, while the outdoor award is the third in the past four.
UW-Oshkosh’s women earned indoor Scholar Team of the Year honors once again after narrowly claiming the indoor national team title over UW-La Crosse by two points, 67-65. The Titans were led by indoor (and outdoor) track Scholar Athlete of the Year Christy Cazzola with individual wins both in the mile and at 3000 meters.
Cazzola was among five UWO women who earned individual All-Academic awards. The award is the third in the past four years for the Titans.
The outdoor Scholar Team of the Year for the Wartburg women was their third in a row to match the three consecutive national team titles they have won. The Knights checked in with a 3.37 cumulative team GPA following a narrow two-point win over the aforementioned UW-Oshkosh, 65-63.
No other women’s team in Division III history has won three straight Scholar Team of the Year awards since it was introduced in 2007.
Among the 12 individual Knights who earned All-Academic honors was outdoor 200 meters champion Libbey Schubert.

The USTFCCCA also announced Tuesday the 2014 Division III All-Academic Track & Field teams. A total of 158 women’s teams and 93 men’s teams earned the distinction as a result of earning a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or higher.
Principia flexed its academic muscle to take the No. 1 spots on both the men’s and women’s lists of top GPAs. The Principia women reported a cumulative team GPA of 3.75 – best in the nation regardless of Division or gender – ahead of Caltech’s 3.67 and Pomona-Pitzer’s 3.63.
Principia’s men were the highest-achieving men’s program in the nation, regardless of Division, with a cumulative 3.63. Amherst was next at 3.55, followed by Goucher at 3.53.
The MIAC was the lone Division III conference to reach double-digits in terms of team representation with 10 women, just ahead of the NESCAC with nine and the SCIAC and NEWMAC with eight each.
On the men’s side, the NESCAC topped the list with eight member institutions earning All-Academic Team nods, followed by the SCIAC, UAA and MIAC with seven apiece.
