I love Max! He's confident, funny, and humble. Whenever someone needs help, he actively searches for a solution. But his life flips upside down after an incident at a party. Secrets surrounded him, and the people he care about are in danger.

With the help of his friends, Max learns how to embrace his powers to fight against evil. There's so many complex characters, you don't know who to trust or believe. Even some of the angels are questionable. This action packed journey is exhilarating, and I regret not reading this sooner.

***I received the eBook free as a review copy from the author in exchange for an honest review***

So far I’ve found that I can love a book just as much when it’s written in a boy’s POV, and Sins of the Fallen is no exception. It might of course help that Max is brilliant, don’t believe me? The book begins with him dressed in drag wearing a red dress. Explanations needed? Then read the book (yes I know I’m a horrible person…)!

I loved reading from Max’s POV because not only is he hilarious, but he can admit when he’s out of his depth, and that’s a good thing because when he’s suddenly faced with angels and demons, he’s going to need some help.

This help comes in the form of Angela and Jones. I don’t want to spoil anything so instead I’ll just say that I’m not on either of their teams. Angel needs to get her head on straight, and Jones needs to stop acting like the world is against him. It isn’t. Even though I am.

I loved this book nevertheless. It’s filled with romance, and mystery and supernatural beings; what more could you want? Stuck in the middle is Max as he goes on a journey of self-discovery, learning not only who and what he is, but who to trust and who has truly betrayed him. There were times when I wanted nothing more than to scream at the characters, times when I didn’t even understand completely understand what just happened. Times when I didn’t know what was coming next and couldn’t turn the page fast enough to find out.

And I just have to mention that ending. It was brutal! Nothing could have prepared Max or myself for it, and for his Dad to go and do what he did… unforgiveable. (I don’t think I could have made that more mysterious if I tried actually!)

Book Review originally published here: http://www.iheartreading.net/book-tou...

I received a copy from this book in exchange for an honest review.

In Sins of the Fallen, Max’s life turns completely upside down when he and his best friend, Jones, go to a house party at Anthony’s place. The twin sisters they brought along on a date turn out to have less than noble intentions. One of them kidnaps Max, reveals she’s a succubus, and he’s somehow their target.

As his life is turned upside down, Max finds out things he never thought possible, not just about himself, but also about his family and friends. Nothing is as it seems.

Slowly, he finds out more about who he is, and why he’s that way. But the clock is ticking as demons pursue him, and target the people he loves…

I liked Sins of the Fallen mostly because for once, it shows us a book from the POV of a boy. And Max is very much a boy. He’s falls in love, he feels attracted to girls he shouldn’t, sometimes he doesn’t really think with his brain (if you know what I’m getting at) and he does stupid stuff, like dressing up like a girl at the start of the book. But in general, he’s a good kid.

There was plenty of action and a dash of romance. I’m sure young adult readers, especially boys, will enjoy this book.

Sins of the Fallen has everything I look for in a young adult novel- a little romance, mystery, and suspense. The main characters are very interesting, and I enjoyed the back-stories that were woven in, especially that of Angela. There were plenty of twists, including unexpected relationships between characters. I was never sure where the next page would take me.

The main character, Max, discovers that he has an unusual power, not to mention unusual people surrounding him. Everything he thinks he knows is ripped away from him one night when he discovers his date is attracted to him for all of the wrong reasons. The fallout from that evening sends him on a journey to discover who he is, and what his future could be if he can learn how to control his power.

I can’t reveal much more without a spoiler alert. What I can say though is don’t let the first chapter put you off or confuse you. Max isn’t a cross dresser, though you may be led to believe that in the beginning. While this book is described as a young adult novel, I believe adults will enjoy the book as well.

This was a page-turning paranormal adventure with enough romance to satisfy any teen reader. It's the story of Max, a typical 17-year old boy who is anything but typical. After attending a party with his best friend, Jones, and a couple of hot twins, Max is kidnapped and discovers the world he lives in is more than he bargained for. One filled with demons and angels and a sexy succubus, determined to inhale the life out of him.

Told from Max's point of view, it's a nice change from most young adult paranormal romances, which are almost always told from a female's point of view. We get to see Max as he copes with the truth, learns more about himself and his family, grapples with love, lust, and everything in between in teen boy fashion.

Plot
The story is definitely a little different from most paranormal teen romances I've read lately, and in a good way. There isn't much I can say here without spoiling anything, so I'll just say there were a lot of twists and turns that kept me hooked.

Characters
While this is primarily a plot-driven story, and there's a lot of plot going on, the characters are fascinating. Max in particular is fun and different. He captured me from the opening page when he hopped a fence in drag. Yes, a straight teen boy in drag. I was instantly hooked. His best friends, Jones and Angela, are equally intriguing with nothing typical about any of them. There are a lot of players in this story and it's hard to tell who can be trusted, which only adds to the fantastic plot.

Bottom Line
Sins of the Fallen is a solid young adult paranormal with a nice twist. If you like stories of fallen angels, you will get a kick out of this one.

This was a great book! I have a fondness for Fallen Angels and Nephilim Stories. Karina Espinosa did this one up nicely there were some cool twists and turns and some very unusual things happen that made this a very exciting read!

I loved the ending, it was one of my favourite parts of the book as it ended with an amazing and heartbreaking battle and then a letter. the letter just added the perfect touch that the book needed in the end I think especially to bring the book down after such a big battle. It was touching and sincere.

Everyone was so shady in this book that you never know who to trust even Max's own father. It makes it especially hard for me to pick a fav character...lol...but I would probably have to say it was Angela. Even though at times she is the greyist of the bunch I think she has a good heart and doesn't want anything bad to happen to Max.

Jeremiel was another favourite of mine. the old man cracked me up at times as he was always doing something different, for the angel of prophecy dude was whacked..lol...he did help as much as he could which I would say wasn't a whole lot but was like going to a grandparent for comfort.

This book was amazing and Karina Espinosa is obviously a brilliant writer! if you like books about the fallen then this is defiantly a story for you!

{my thoughts} – Max Taylor is an average seventeen year-old boy, he has two main friends Jones and Angela and a loving mother and father. His father is mostly absent through out his upbringing and his mother is his primary caregiver. His two close friends Angela lives next door and Jones lives with some foster parents that always appear to be out of town.

Max has a secret but he isn’t able to remember just what that secret is. His dad keeps having Jones his {so-called} best-friend wipe his memory so that he can’t remember anything in regards to the paranormal world that he is actually a part of and living in. Jones takes Max to a party with some twins and they come to find out that the twins are just one person a succubus. The succubus has the ability to suck the life force from someone and double their appearance. The succubus fools Jones and the double that isn’t real takes him up into a room with ulterior motive and the actual succubus kidnaps Max.

Max is missing for a few days, but eventually Angela is able to find and locate him with her mind reading abilities. She goes in and saves his life and this is about when his dad finally sees that he has been wrong all these years to protect him from all the unknown variables. Instead he begins to understand that he should have been training him and preparing him.

Max just wants to know what is going on and why his life no longer is making any sense. What high school boy wouldn’t want to know such things. His world went from nearly perfect to nearly if not almost completely upside down. That’s something it is hard for anyone to digest let alone a teenager that has been having their mind wiped for more years then they can remember.

It seems that Max’s mom knows about Max and that when he gets angry he has a special power. He can create blue fire, the fire of heaven. Max and Angela eventually go and seek guidance from a close friend of his dads named Jeremiel and he is able to tell them that Max is Nephilim. This is news to both Max and Angela but mostly to his dad who always wanted his son to be nothing but a normal child growing up. Max’s dad also has a secret that Max didn’t know – he is a fallen angel from heaven. He is this because he chose to have a baby and fall in love with Max’s mother which was forbidden. He had the option to spend the rest of his life in heaven and never she the woman he loved and his baby again or to fall from heaven and live the rest of his life with them. Because he chose to fall from heaven and give up everything he and Max’s mother were cursed and unable to ever have another child again.

Eventually Max figures out that Jones and Angela are a couple and that they really aren’t friends but his Guardians. This blows Max’s mind and because of it things are really rocky with Max, his dad and his friends. Max seeks out some normalcy in his life and starts dating a new girl in town named Melanie — however even though he cares deeply for her, in the end he is forced to part ways.

There are so many ground breaking developments within the pages of this book, that it is difficult not to want to keep reading. I urge you if you haven’t picked this book up to do just that. You won’t regret it! It’s a wonderful read and one that I highly recommend!

{liked quotes} –
01} The feeling of not always belonging got to me. Even though I’m seventeen and this is what I’m suppose to be doing, I really don’t want to. The thought of being home was more of my liking. The alcohol, the partying and the supposedly sleeping around is just what I’m required to do – you know the high school experience.

02} Max what happened earlier was a mistake. You don’t understand the rules and consequences for us. Just stop whatever it is that you’re feeling because it will never happen again.

03} No. I’m not going to turn off my emotions that easily. What are you a robot? People can’t just do that,” I argued.

04} A Nephilim? That’s a myth. Anyways, weren’t they all destroyed during the flood?” Angela asked. I was at a loss. The flood? Like Noah’s Ark?

05} The Nephilim are the sins of the fallen, it’s only right for each of you to represent a sin. They were born from sin, an abnormality in our race. What your parents did was not right Max.

06} We humans like to party and if I recall there was a certain angel who was a wannabe human that used to party a lot too. Just saying.

07} “You know Mister Taylor, everyone has a purpose in life, whether it’s to lead, follow, create, etcetera. But we tend to let anger, heartache, and even ignorance – as well as other emotions – stand in the way of fulfilling our destiny has been paved for us, all because of fear the unknown. Yes, the unknown variable is frightening.”

08} “And yes, it is much easier to stay away from this all, but when we are destined for remarkable things, we are caught in a crossroad of choices and sometimes the dangers outweigh the reward. It’s never easy, but it’s a choice none the less and one that is quite the burden.”

09} Moping isn’t going to bring mom back or even my old life back. I can’t change the things I can’t control, but I can start with the things that I can.

This is one heck of a book. Poor Max. I mean poor Max. He must be so lost and confused by the end of the book and his dad hello your son needs you and you do that no uh huh not good at all.

Max is a seventeen yr old whose life is turned upside down in one night. One night in which Jones doesn't see something until it is too late and Max's life gets thrown for a loop. What a loop too. He finds out he isn't what he thinks he is, his dad isn't either, there have been lies his whole life, his friend has betrayed him, he has no idea who to believe. Jeremiel is one he feels safe with and even he is in danger.

Jones, his best friend, turns on him but not on purpose. He is in love with Angela and envious of Max. Angela is who Max can't get off his mind even with Melanie sweet sweet melanie as his girlfriend. Max's heartfelt letter in the end is too much. He says he's a horrible person but he isn't. he is caring and kind just lost and confused. One good thing is he hasn't turned to evil yet. Angela feels for both Jones and Max but turns Max away. Her dad is evil and I fear she may be too. Don't understand why Max's dad protects her though. What is the deal there? What is so important about her and Max. At first I thought oh she is Nephilim but not possible I don't think. Max's mom is the sweetest thing since sliced bread and love her so understand max's emotions in the book with her.

Max's dad not so sure about. He loves Max obviously but is also holding back. And his deal with Angela not sure about. Way to protective what is it. I know he was friends with her dad but hello your son needs you. there is a connection between Angela, Max's dad, Angela's dad and JOnes just not sure what.

Poor Max all he wants is normalcy and that is gone. Now he is left broken, confused, scared and feeling like his dad doesn't love him or care. I hope things turn out okay for Max.

So Max finds out he is in danger and no one really tells him much. When he defends everyone he gets in trouble and when he tries to be normal he endangers people. He can't win to save his life.

A fascinating book with lots of twists and turns, secrets and danger. A book of love and betrayal, acceptance and pain. I hope we figure out who is good and who isn't it's hard to keep up. The plot keeps you twisted up and excited while the writing keeps you reading. A wonderful read.

I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock.
Sins of the Fallen is the first book in The Sins of the Fallen series.
17 year old Max is a normal high school student, going to parties, hanging out with friends and studying in school. Max and his best friend Jones go to a party with two pretty girls that Jones met. When Max wakes up dazed and confused he realizes he was kidnapped. Not only that but to make matters worse it was a succubus who kidnapped him. Thrown into a world of angels and demons nothing is as it seems. As Max struggles to figure out who and what he is, forces are coming for him. Max must fight for his life and of those he loves.

An excellent YA paranormal read. Hard to put down once you pick it up. Navigating through the secrets and lies is just part of this adventure. The story was believable and not randomly out of the blue. It was told from Max's POV, a nice change from a usual girl protagonist.
I loved the characters and how genuine they are. Max is a typical teenager and naturally he's scared and confused when his life is thrown into turmoil. Jones is his best friend and always has his back no matter what. Angela is a strong woman and we get glimpses of her past to get a peek at who she really is.
There are a lot of secrets and unknown questions that leave you guessing and wondering what happens next. The story had plenty of action, mystery and some romance. A wonderful blend of genres that make the story hard to put down.
I recommend this to fans of YA action paranormal stories and stories of angels and demons.
I rate this 5 fangs.

3.5 - 4 Stars in my Sky!

It's not all that often we get a YA book told from a guys POV but in Sins of the Fallen we are treated to teenager Max's voice as he faces some very different and difficult life changes. In next to no time Max goes from being a normal teenage guy to suddenly being faced with demons, angels and near death experiences.

What I particularly liked was how Katrina kept her readers guessing by adding some surprising twists, turns and an interesting back story. As with all tall, dark and handsome guys, Max defo seemed to get a lot of attention from girls. It made a nice change to see these scenes from the guys POV - what do teenage guys really think about girls, relationships and sex?

Although there is the odd mention of sex the story is clean and the focus is on Max coming to terms with his new situation. You are left wondering who is being honest and who has a hidden agenda.

I really liked the incorporation of the nephilim and the deadly sins lore. I enjoyed Sins of the Fallen and wonder where Max and Jones will be headed next?

This was a good book. Max's life completely changes the night of the party. He and his best friend go to a party, and Max gets kidnapped...by a succubus. Life as Max knew it was no longer. He was now in a world, not who he always thought he was, and surrounded by people who aren't who he thought THEY were. As he learns more about himself, he has to face the demons and fight them.
I really enjoyed how the story started out with Max! Overall, the author did a really good job with the characters. Written from Max's perspective, we 'think like a boy' and it was dead on! He does stupid things, falls in love, is attracted to the bad girl, and all sorts of stuff that really happens to teenage boys. That being said, it was a paranormal book and I loved the angel/demon elements. This is book one in the series and I expect the next book to be just as good!
I rate this a 4/5. It was a good YA book and I am ready to read more.

Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book(via reading addiction tours). I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

A perfect YA novel. Seriously. We have some romance, we have the paranormal aspect, we have a bizarre mystery to basically piece together, and it's not a long book. Win everywhere.

Basically t his is the story of poor Max. Mas gets kidnapped by a really pretty girl who isn't a girl at all, all while his friend Jones watches on. He gets rescued by the girl of his dreams and it becomes the start of a nightmare. Max finds out his dad isn't just a human, super beings are essentially out to get him, his friend also isn't who he was assumed to be, and somehow, Max has fire throwing powers he hand no idea about 24 hours earlier.

I can't really tell you what happens because this is book one in a series and everything else is essentially a spoiler in some way. I will tell you that the beginning is a little odd, but it definitely picks up once Max gets kidnapped and rescued and starts his training. I'm excited to see where Karina goes with the rest of this series. I definitely recommend this if you like YA with a paranormal twist. And fallen angels, come on. Who doesn't love that??

This book sneeks up on you for sure.

It starts out as a teen boy Max being your typical teen going to a party on Saturday night, where he is kidnapped by a succubus. We find out his archangel dad became a fallen angel to marry the love of his love Maxs mom, meaning Max is a nephilim. (confused yet??

Hes overwhelmed and scared as he learns of his new powers and that his crush Angela and his best friend Jones are also his guardian angels.

Hes thrown into a world of unknown and trying to not fall for Angela since its forbidden he dates Melissa for a distraction.

Archangels demons and guardians are coming out of the wood works to find Max one of the 7 Nephilim.

The story takes a shocking turn Maxs biggest fear becomes reality and he loses someone very close to him forcing him to leave now. The story although slightly confusing is well written and exciting.

It has a cliffhanger and leaves you wanting more.

An interesting new read and unique because it's written from a guys POV. You very rarely get to read a whole book and be able to say, "Oh, so that's how a guy usually thinks." LOL! It was a breath of fresh air. I love Max and his story. From thinking you were completely normal one day to finding out that your life isn't what you thought it was. We get to follow him through wonderful twists and turns as he discovers this new life in the world of angels and demons. This is a wonderful story filled with a lot of adventure and mystery and I am anxiously awaiting the next book :)

So... I enter pretty much any and every book giveaway I see in good of falling in love with a new author or genre. I didn't read the synopsis for this and am so glad I didn't. I felt like every change if the page left me wondering if I was going to fall off the edge of my seat. I'm so mad with the ending of this book. Not the book itself but it just left me angry and frustrated and craving for vengeance. Now I have to stay up to start the next book because I've got to see what happens next.
