The Summer Games #1

Settling the Score

Rate this book
From the USA TODAY Bestselling author of Scoring Wilder, comes a sexy new standalone novel.

As an Olympic rookie, Andie Foster has spent far more time in her cleats than between the sheets. For 21 years, her Friday nights have consisted of blocking shots rather than taking them. But now that she's landed in Rio, she's ready to see for herself if the rumors about the Olympic Village are true:
• The athletes are all sex-crazed maniacs...
• The committee passes out condoms like candy...
• The games continue long after the medals have been handed out...
As Andie walks the line between rumor and reality, she's forced into the path of Frederick Archibald, a decorated Olympic swimmer and owner of a sexy British accent--too bad he's unavailable in a way that "it's complicated" doesn't even begin to explain.

In other words: off limits.

It doesn't matter that he has abs that could bring peace to the Middle East and a smile that makes even the Queen blush; Andie fully intends on keeping her focus on the soccer field. But the Village is small. Suffocating. Everywhere Andie goes, Freddie happens to be there--shirtless, wet from the pool, and determined to show her a whole new meaning of the phrase "international affairs".

Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

“When the flame is lit, let the games begin.”

'Settling the Score' is the first installment in R.S. Grey’s newest series entitled 'The Summer Games' and was everything I love in a good sports romance – a great mix of sweetness and sexiness with plenty of witty, funny moments and a lovely romance that made me smile and swoon. As you may know, I’m a little picky when it comes to sports romance books, but when Rachel offered me a chance to read this first book in the series I jumped on it, because I already knew how entertaining her writing is.

“Are you de devil?” I asked the floating head. “Because I swear I was going to clean up my act really soon.” (…) Is Satan was this handsome, I’d probably be able to handle the eternal damnation business.”

Andie Foster is a twenty-one years old girl from the States who made her way to the Olympics at Rio. Unlike her married two best friends/teammates, Andie is excited to be in the city “well acquainted with debauchery”, being more than ready to live a little. For so long she focused all her energy on soccer, so she’s looking forward to explore everything there is to explore in the upcoming week until the matches begin. After all she deserves a little fun, so Viva Brazil!

“The sight of him begged a rousing “good heavens” with a polite undertone of “new pair of panties, please”.”

"I was not in love with Frederick Archibald. People do not fall in love overnight. I was merely excited by the idea of Freddie the same way I got excited by two-for-one ice cream sundaes at McDonald's."

Enter Frederick ‘Freddie’ Archibald, the enigmatic, talented British swimmer everyone talks about. Freddie is there to break his previous records and win. He’s the bad boy of swimming and every girl in the Olympic village lusts after him. Needless to say Freddie is like a British royalty, but here’s the thing, Freddie in some way is a royalty since he’s a duke.

When Andy meets Freddie she’s mesmerized by his smile…and by his caramel eyes….and of course by his killer abs. Freddie can’t say exactly what makes Andy different from other girls, but he knows she’s different, that she’s real and he knows he’s drawn to her like a moth to a flame. He wants her badly and he’s willing to do anything to have her.

“Do you think this thing between us is real? Or is it just part of the magic of Rio?”

I really enjoyed this fun, sweet and sexy entertaining read! In fact, it was my favorite R.S. Grey book to date. It had a little bit of everything, which I loved immensely and a nice dose of angst that kept me at the edge of my seat. The writing was a little different from Rachel’s other books I’ve read so far, but in a good way and IMO the story flowed nicely. This delightful read for sure was a page-turner.

One aspect of the story I enjoyed very much was the Olympic setting. For me it was very refreshing since I’ve never read a sports romance with such a setting. It was a nice change and I’m looking forward to read the upcoming books in the series which I’m sure will be as entertaining as this one. The author did a fantastic job describing everything that happens on the Olympics. For someone who’s not into sports, I found all the soccer matches and sports talking very appealing. So, kudos to the author!

“She didn’t know what she wanted, but I knew what I didn’t want to miss.”

Both Andie and Freddie were highly likeable characters. They were well portrayed and I liked the fact their backgrounds were so well developed and I get the chance to know them as individuals before knowing them as a couple. Andie was a remarkable heroine. She’s smart, hardworking, ambitious, confident and sure of himself and to be honest with you was very hard not to like her from the moment she was introduced. I loved how fun she was at times, how carefree and I admired her dedication to do her best and win gold for her country. Her POV made me smile a lot and as the story unfolded I really sympathize with her for one reason or another.

“Do you feel how fast your heart is racing? How badly you want me to lean in and drag my lips across your skin?”

I loved Freddie. He is that type of hero you will fall for immediately. He’s sex-on-a-stick, of course, but he is more than that. As Andy, he is hard-working, focused and loves sports. I loved the fact that he wasn’t a manwhore like many heroes we usually meet in sports romance novels. He was sweet and charming and he definitely knew what he wanted – to get to know Andie better, to be with her.

description

The chemistry between these was from the beginning off the charts, palpable and I enjoyed their sweet and sexy moments as much as I enjoyed their banter. Their easy banter was highly entertaining and there were many times when I was grinning from ear to ear.

As I mentioned above the story has some angst (‘nice angst’) and also some drama (to be honest all the drama was a little too much IMO). As for the supporting character I loved them all…well, except ‘the crazy b*tch’ (trust me, you will know who I’m talking about). All of them were engaging, but the one who stole the show for me,…well, almost was Freddie’s little sister, Georgie. OMG! I loved her! She was the sh*t and I would love to read her story. LOVE!

I have to mention the two epilogues. Yeah, you heard me right...two, which I simply loved! It’s not a secret I loved epilogues. Every book should have at least one IMO, so the fact that this one has two was a big win for me. They were cute and tender and pure and simply wonderful.

All in all, 'Settling the Score' was a very entertaining and addictive read with engaging characters, great humor and a delightful sweet, sexy and tender romance.

Highly recommended!

Georgie, the Minister of Espionage, stole the show.

I really enjoyed Settling the Score which was a wee bit of a surprise, to be honest. I’m not a sporty type of person and I generally don’t go looking for New Adult stories. In this case, I could hardly pass up meeting a hunky English swimmer who also happens to be a Duke. Some Royalty have been known to participate in the Olympics but normally their place is in the equestrian events, so a swimmer was definitely a surprise. We also meet a soccer goalie who is excited to be participating in her first Olympics, but also wants to take this opportunity to party a little bit and maybe even find a bit of “action”. Their first encounter was at a Rubik’s Cube party held by the Brazilian swimming team and is a little unusual. She’s flat on her back after being dropped by a Viking and thinks he’s the Devil.

Andie is so excited to be in Rio for the Olympics and to finally have a chance to do a little partying. She is 21 years old and has spent most of her years preparing for an event like this. Being a soccer star is a lot of hard work and training, but it’s worth it in the end. It’s not until she’s in the village that she realises that two of her married teammates have been asked by Andie’s mum to keep an eye on her. This puts a chink in her plans, but she manages to go to a party and sneak away from them. Looking around, she is happy with the smorgasbord of hot men to keep her occupied. One of those athletes is British swimmer Freddie Archibald.

Freddie’s life has been all about his swimming for a very long time. When his father and brother die within a year of each other, everything changes. Suddenly, he is a Duke and will have to take the responsibility of running his estates seriously. Freddie’s mother has plans that don’t really mesh with his swimming career. One of the plans he inherited was a betrothal to a family friend. It’s outdated and silly to still have betrothals, but he made the mistake of saying he’d think about it. Freddie’s mum interprets this as – sure, I’d love to marry a woman I don’t love and who I will probably never love. He knows he has to stop the plans from going ahead, but he made the mistake of putting the Olympics before dealing with the breaking of the betrothal.

There are sparks when Andie and Freddie meet. Andie doesn’t know a lot about Freddie but knows that he is royalty or something like it. Freddie’s attraction to Andie reinforces his need to break the betrothal, but doesn’t get a chance before the chick he’s betrothed to rocks up to the Olympic Village as chaperone to Freddie’s younger sister, Georgie.

Georgie is my favourite character in Settling the Score. She’s seventeen, a smartarse and not afraid of telling her big brother off when he needs it. Georgie’s quirkiness and straight talking had me in stitches and I would love to get her story when she has grown up a little.

Now, I really did enjoy this book but I had a few niggles as well. This was a pretty long story and I felt the angst was a little drawn out. I also had a really big problem with Freddie letting Andie suffer through the media frenzy and attacks by herself. It was like his Olympic dream was more important than Andie’s which didn’t sit well with me. I didn’t feel that Freddie’s mum's part in the drama was dealt with. Yes, she had been grieving over her husband and sons deaths, but I would think a mother would be more interested in her son’s happiness than a forced marriage.

I absolutely loved imagining the Olympic Village and what it would be like having so many people in one place all living their dreams. We also get a glimpse into the schedules athletes need to follow to reach their dreams and I can certainly say that I don’t have it in me to suffer through the pain.

Settling the Score was a great story that had me laughing out loud. Their love story was a little quick, but it wasn’t like he wanted to put a ring on it after a couple of weeks, so I was OK with it. There were a couple of steamy scenes that weren’t too bad at all. Freddie definitely wasn’t a stuffy old Duke. The troubles that the couple faced kept the story flowing and held my interest from the beginning to the end. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

4.5 "new pair of panties, please" stars!
Seriously,R.S. Grey needs to pay for my lingerie because good heavens! the woman knows how to write a hot book!

“When the flame is lit,let the games begin.”

I've said it many times and I'll keep saying it,sweet-funny-sexy is R.S. Grey's golden rule and once again, she did not disappoint! Here's the list she must have posted on her fridge with Settling the Score's ingredients:

✔Sex-crazed athletes
✔An exotic city full of sweat and desire
✔Competition to drive you over the edge
✔A swimmer with a face so handsome that makes you weep and a body so sinful that makes you combust (Searching for a way to make him even more alluring?Let's make him a british duke*cue evil laughter*)
✔A snarky and stubborn heroine
✔A perfect wanna-be-Sherlock-Holmes sister
✔Liam.freaking.Wilder
✔Becca and Kinsley aka the laugh-your-ass-off-duo
✔A psycho queen bitch that makes you pray she'll cross paths with Ramsay Bolton soon
✔Angst,tension and sexual frustration
✔Steam,steam and more steam

“I couldn't fault myself for it.I had working lady parts and a pulse, therefore the sight of Frederick Archibald had seemed alluring.”

Settling the Score was a delicious, highly addictive and entertaining book that gave me all the feels! What I found admirable was that even though things between Freddie and Addie evolved in a rather short time period,it never felt like insta-love.On the contrary,it was a slow process that started with lust that turned into affection that turned into love and we witnessed every single step that brought them together, every stolen glance and hot make-out session and heartbreak and promise!Because besides the sizzling tension,it was also the connection between two people who understood each other all too well that gave us a heart-pant-melting story!
“I'd wanted to taste madness and I had.It tasted like a hot British swimmer who was currently off the fucking market.”

I don't find it necessary to state how swoonworthy Freddie was,it's quite obvious!I do have to admit though that I didn't give the fifth star because of Addie. Not because I didn't like her but because I liked her the least among the other female characters. There were my beloved lunatics Kinsley and Becca, and there was also Georgie, sweet, crazy and loving Georgie that became my favorite supporting character ever! This girl is pure gold!

I highly recommend Settling the Score if you want a good sports romance by the queen of NA romance!

LIVE: http://amzn.to/1SWK1Rr

I will let you in on a secret, I am obsessed with the Summer Olympics and one Olympian in particular. Michael Phelps, the ultimate Olympian and my obsession since 2004. His domination in the pool completely captivated me in Greece and at the age of 19 I became OBSESSED with all things Phelpsie <- that’s my pet name for him.

Imagine my surprise when I pick up one of my favorite authors books and learn that the hero is an Olympic swimmer who dominates the sport. EEEK!!!! I swear I was dying when I learned this, I mean hello, it’s a dream come true!! So, yes, I loved this book, but not just because I am a weirdo obsession with Phelpsie. This story is really so much more!

The story begins with Andie arriving at the Olympic village in Rio de Janeiro. Andie is a soccer player and it is her first time at the Olympics. She has been training hard her whole life to get to this moment, but she has heard the scandalous rumors surrounding the village and is ready to unwind a little. Her first night there she goes to a party and meets Freddie.

This isn’t Freddie’s first time at the Olympics, but when he meets Andie he is captivated he has never met anyone like her before. The story really unfolds when we learn Freddie is actually a Duke and with the exception of swimming his life has been planned out for him. After the Olympics are over he is expected to return home and fulfill his familial duties.

Andie and Freddie together might be my favorite Grey couple yet. I loved how open and honest they were with their feelings, how they didn’t play games and how freaking sexy they were together. This story has enough angst and intrigue give me heart palpitations, but had no unnecessary drama. It just flowed from one page to the next.

I loved every minute of this book and it is a longer book, but I sped right through it falling more and and more in love with each chapter. I am a huge fan of RS Grey, I don’t even care what he writes I love it, but this book feels like it was written for me, it was absolute perfection, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

THREE WINNING GOLD
STARS.

"I’m here to win gold, not hearts."

description

Here is is, finally the release I've been waiting for. RS Grey has once again put pen to paper and delivered a steamy, sports romance for her readers to fall in love with.
Gorgeous cover: check.
Intriguing blurb: check.
Author that I love: double check.
I was set to go, and although in the end I didn't find myself dizzy with excitement over this latest by one of my favourites, there was certainly enough content for me to fall into respectable 'like'

What's it all about ...
It's set to be a sizzling summer when the Olympic Games begin. RS Grey has come out with a bang with her new series set in a sporty, sexy back drop and with drama and scandal aplenty you'll find her characters navigating more than an obstacle or two to find their way to a happy ending. Follow the story of the swim star, British aristocrat and his one distraction in the form of USA's rising soccer star, 'settling the score' is guaranteed to keep readers entertained and cheering from the sidelines.

description

What did I love?
As always RS Grey delivered her trademark solid writing style. Her books are always wonderfully edited and out and out entertaining. Not to mention the added bonus of the Hot and steamy sex scenes included in this sexy, sports romance. 'Settling the score', captured what every romance reader is looking for; the perfect meet cute followed by a sprinkle of angst, topped off with a
perfectly executed happily ever after. Sadly for me this time around this particularly likeable book missed the pizazz that I crave in my romance reading but that's not to take away from this authors already established and well known talent. This time around it came down to a clash of personal reading tastes. With all that being said, I'm pretty much convinced that lovers of this trope (and this author) will feel like they've won gold (see what I did there) on finishing this first book of the series.

Why not five?
This likeable sports romance fell somewhere between a three and a four star. Regrettably, (and unusually with said author) this time around I found the book to be a little too slow paced for my tastes and I somehow missed the laugh out load humour that this author normally brings to the table. As always with a Grey novel there are plenty of things to fall into like with but I found 'settling the score' missed out on the romance side of the story telling. All in all I needed that little something more to make me full out sold. Without giving anything away that would lead to spoiling the story some of the surprise twists slightly grated at my personal reading tastes and I found myself more than ready to read about this couple and their happy future together.

description

Final thoughts ....
To end on a high note my words of advise (if you need any) are simply: Read this author. I'll never miss a release by RS Grey, her books are always well polished and likeable and let's face it any book with a cover as good as this one must have something worth loving inside. 'Settling the score' is available to purchase today once you've one clicked and devoured, come back and tell me your thoughts. Enjoy, kisses.

R.S. Grey score 4.5 stars from me!:) I can always count on having a good time reading R.S. Grey's book and this time I am also not disappointed. It's pleasure to read them. They are funny, sexy, interesting and captivating.

About the plot: Andie Foster plays in the US Women's Soccer National Team. They are going at her first Olympic Games, which take place in Rio, Brazil. She has big plans to play the best she can and win the gold medal with her team. And also have fun. Andie is fascinated by the atmosphere of the Olympic Village and heard a lot of rumors and ruling debauchery out there. She intends to check if it's true with her own skin and spend the best time of her life.

On one of the first parties in the Olympic Village, Andie crashes to the ground and see the devil himself, which turns out to be gorgeous athlete who comes to her rescue. She had heard a little gossip about Frederick Archibald. He is some kind of royal and several times decorated Olympic swimmer. Since then, they are frequently bump into each other. Lust and chemistry sparks and flashes between them from the beginning. They are smitten and have a difficult time to stay away.

The problem is that the British guy who caught Andie eye, and who also seems to be interested in her, turns out to be off limits. Freddie indeed is a Duke who has family obligations, that don't allow them expand their knowledge. Pushin back and forth, it isn't entirely possible to prevent what is happening. He wants to fix this situation, but also wants to focus on their competitions. When to the image enters his arranged future, the situation is changing into a veritable madness. How to get out of this?

“We couldn’t make each other promises because there was nothing to promise. We had moments, tiny , stolen moments that felt wrong more than they felt right.”

Final thoughts: The beginning of the book is simply phenomenal. The plot goes in an exciting and original way. And the background itself about the Olympic is simply an amazing idea for a series. For this setting in Brazil, and where else you can better light your senses than in hot and sinful Rio?

I had a problem with the reality of sport topic sometimes, I thought, really? So many events? Alcohol? Condoms? Yes!!! Number of condoms certainly is confirmed (I checked!). Therefore, come to believe in all other things. If you're not a fan of the sport theme, don't get discouraged. It is dealt with quite loosely and lightly way. I think is centered to satisfy both parts. Those who like to read about it, and those who do not.

The author has created an amazing character. In particular, she has the talent to create awesome heroines. And not only the leading figure. Andie, Kinsley, Becca and a new character Georgie, all the women in her books are always something else. They are witty and feisty, and yet stand firmly on the ground. Of course, sexy British bloke inscribed in this beautifully. What is fantastic in Freddie, is that although women throws themselves at him, he's not the menwhore type. From the start he appreciates Andie freshness and uniqueness. Can definitely be your next book-boyfriend.

“I looked up, her smile was back but subdued, hanging at the corners of her mouth, ready to spring free if only someone could unlock it. I wanted to be that person.”

Their relationship grows progressively along with the story. Although you will not find here a lot of dirty scenes, exactly one or two are totally panty melting, it's completely enough. Because the chemistry and lust between them is so high that it creates perfect tension and good fun.

“My wrist hurts,” she said.
“My shoulder hurts,” I said.
“My lips hurt.”
“I think we ought to do it again.”
She laughed. “Obviously.”

I loved about this story everything to the point at which appeared too much drama. I would prefer it went in the other direction, because there was a moment in which drama surpassed everything. But I still give a high rating since no book ever amused me like this one. There are a few hilarious situations that made me laugh so much that I can't even describe to you. I definitely need to read Scoring Wilder. Shame, I know, but I catch up!

This is not my first book of the author and I know that whenever I reached for her stories I always have fun. It is always well written in this effortlessly and refreshing way. This is the author I want to read each new book and surely I will do it.

“I turned toward the crowd and listened to them shouting my name, I knew that win or lose, I’d done it. I was an Olympian.”

It's an exciting time of life for Olympic rookie, Andie Foster. She's worked tirelessly for this opportunity to be part of the Brazilian games, and as well as going for gold, she intends to soak up all fun that Rio has to offer.

What she isn't banking on is the level of distraction afforded by decorated Olympic swimmer, Frederick Archibald. The heat between them is enough to power an Olympic sized sauna and I had no end of enjoyment watching these two steam up the village. Soccer maybe Andie's game of choice but it's Freddie who is man of the match. I absolutely adored him.

“Do you feel how fast your heart is racing? How badly you want me to lean in and drag my lips across your skin?

I immediately warmed to Andie, she's lively, outgoing and has great party ethic. As well as battling temptation, running interference with her two (initially overbearing) best friends, and keeping her mind focuses on the games, there's a conflict of Freddie's which creates another dynamic to the story.

Settling the Score is an entertainingly humorous read which summoned up the kind of energy I never could muster for sports. It quickly became my favourite R.S. Grey read to date. I'll be happily limbering up cheering from sidelines as I await the call up for, Out of Bounds.

4 Gold Stars.

Andie spend her whole life trying to be great at football (I don’t know what that “soccer” thing is, I’m from Europe.) and now she finds herself in Rio de Janeiro, competing in the Olympics and living the dream. She wasn’t looking for romance, but when Freddie, sexy British swimmer and Olympic champion appears in the scene everything changes.
Freddie has his eyes set on Andie was well but his situation is well… complicated is an understatement. But when Freddie wants something he makes sure he gets it, so let the games begin.

description

I know I’ve said this before but I loved R. S Grey’s style. Her writing is funny, witty, sexy with really romantic parts. This book was no exception, add her ability to write sports romance and a sexy British hero and ladies and gentleman… we have a winner.
There was some aspects of the story that I didn’t care that much, mostly Freddie’s “situation” but I liked how the author wrapped up everything and this was a very good book with a nice ending. If you like sports romance, this is definitely a good choice.

The games, my records, the press-none of it seemed important if only I could have Andie.

Well, I'm a little torn in writing this review. There were some things I truly loved and appreciated about Summer Games, some things I felt were okay, and others that I would have preferred had gone differently. Anytime I'm conflicted, I go with an average rating right down the middle and that's what happened here. I can really see this book as being a huge hit with a lot of people, but due to my personal reading tastes, some things detracted from my overall enjoyment of an otherwise entertaining and sexy read.

Let's start with the positives.

What did I love about Summer Games? The setting. The atmosphere of the Olympic games was an absolute treat for me to read about. One of my favorite sub-genres to read is Sports romance and I have to say, I've never read a book similar to this one where both the H/h are Olympic athletes at the top of their game. Anytime I read something new and fresh, it automatically gets points for originality.

The book started off on a high note. I was loving the heroine Andie, her thoughts and bantering between Becca and Kinsley had me engaged from page one. I was quickly flipping through the pages to see what kinds of shenanigans she was going to embroil herself in.

With an opener like this, how can you not want to read more?

The committee passes out condoms like candy.
The athletes are all sex-crazed maniacs.
The games continue long after the gold medals are handed out.

Andie is arriving at the Olympic games ready to spread her wings and let loose after training for years to make it to the women's U.S. soccer team. She's missed out on enjoying her youth. Boys and parties have been non-existant and she wants to reward herself with a little bit of fun. She never expected the whirlwind that occurs when she encounters one very British, very charming, and very unavailable Frederick Archibald.

The sight of him begged a rousing "good heavens" with a polite undertone of "new pair of panties, please".

Freddie comes from a very high society lineage, we're talking English Duke here, though he wants no part of it. His passion is swimming, not dealing with the responsibilities that were thrust on him.

This is where the forbidden romance thread begins between Andie and Freddie. They are both immediately smitten and feeling overwhelmingly drawn together, but it's a temptation that they know they shouldn't succumb to.

For some, their relationship will skate the line of inappropriate as they are knowingly flirting with scandal. Freddie is not free to date, but the struggle to stay away from each other was an exhausting one. It didn't give me more than a prickle of unease as their situation landed them in a grey area. When certain factors come to light later on, it becomes more clear that these two were certainly not causing devastation with their actions. And I must say, these two were so adorable and the tension built between them was expertly done. I couldn't wait to see them fall prey to their desire.

I was enjoying the book immensely until Caroline entered the scene. I really could have rated this book a little higher if not for her. To me, there was enough of a conflict just due to the fact that she existed. She was a major roadblock in their happiness just for being an unwelcome part of his life. There was also the added conflict that tied in with it. Andie's career and reputation. She was risking everything, putting everything on the line for this man and it was a logical step to take in the plot. The drama involving Caroline however was not needed and frankly felt over the top for my tastes. It lasted too long and I was fighting the urge to flip past the craziness.

After the huge resolution occurred in the story, it was smooth sailing and I found myself completely concentrated on discovering Freddie and Andie's happy ending. The conclusion, most especially the epilogues (yes there were two!) were enough to warm my heart and leave me feeling very satisfied. Though there some issues with the direction of the plot, overall I found Summer Games to be a light and pleasant read with plenty of humor to put a smile on your face. I recommend this to anyone looking for a fast and fun Sports Romance that's a little different than what you'll typically find in the genre.

R.S. Grey has blown me away yet again with this fun, hilarious, exciting and sexy romantic comedy. A gold medal winner I didn’t want to end, but then true R.S. fashion, she gave us a double epilogue!

Andie Foster has given up a lot and worked her entire life for a chance at Olympic Gold. Now that she’s in Rio de Janerio she’ll give her all on the field and partake in the enjoyment when she’s not. She also wants to know if the stories about the Olympic village are true.

However having her very married and responsible team captains as her roommates will make letting loose a challenge but not an impossibility. When she’s able to escape them, she never imagined she’d be meeting a completely forbidden swimming god who’ll make her throw caution and reason to the wind.
“I was staring at shirtless Freddie, a sight more beautiful than any of the world’s wonders. What was Giza compared to his chiseled, tan six-pack? Who needed the hanging gardens of Babylon when you could have the low-hanging fruit of his loom?”

Two time Olympian Frederick Archibald has arrived at his third Olympic competition to break his previous records and win. He’s there to do what he does best, swim. And in the process to put on hold for a bit longer his family’s obligations that were thrust upon him after his brother’s untimely death.

He had reluctantly accepted the fact that he couldn’t ignore his title and the responsibilities that came with it. He wasn’t in no hurry to be a Duke, especially when he needs to concentrate on swimming, certainly not when he meets a woman who’s unlike any he’s ever met. She’s not just beautiful and fun, she’s a breath of fresh air. But his life at the moment is more than complicated. Can they figure out a way to win more than gold?
"I needed her more than I needed my next race. The water was soothing, but Andie lit me on fire."

Reading an R.S. Grey book is a true delight. She has perfected a refreshing writing style that incorporates humor, sultriness, angst and romance in a story with two very likeable main characters and a set of incorrigible secondary characters that made me laugh out loud, swoon and had me longing to be part of their group and turning page after page wanting to know what comes next while never wanting it to end.
Freddie's crazy sweet lil sistah Gorgie who I hope to read more of.

Andie's crazy fun best buds Kinsley & Becca who we met in Scoring Wilder

Andie hadn’t become America’s new poster girl by chance. She’s more than dedicated to her teammates and country, she’s a strong, brave, down to earth family girl. I liked her instantly, she made me smile continually. I suffered with her when she went through the media and gossip gauntlet and delighted when she finally found her fulfilling happiness.

Freddie is so much more than gorgeous good looks that include a sexy accent and a panty melting smile. He’s talented, charming and truly a nice guy who wants to do right by his family and the people he cares for. The resolve to hold on to Andie and the connection he’s found with her is absolutely swoon worthy.

I loved their quick and easy banter as they became friends, indulged in their undeniable chemistry during their stolen moments together and all around rooted for them as they navigated through the sad lows and wonderful highs while trying to figure out a relationship.
“I was falling for her so bloody hard and so bloody fast that the idea of losingher over a misunderstanding seemed unfathomable.”

Settling the Score is the kick off book in The Summer Games series by R.S. Grey. It’s a wonderful sports romance with the thrill of elite swimming and soccer competitions as a background to a witty, tender and sexy romance. It’s a great prelude to the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and a must read for rom-com lovers. It can be read as a standalone. Told from both points of view. With not one but two epilogues!

Andie Foster is a 21 yr. old woman from Vermont. She moves to L.A. to train for the Olympics. Andie is the goalkeeper for USA's women's national soccer team. She takes being an athlete seriously. She has dedicated her life to the sport she loves & had made the necessary sacrifices. This means she hardly has a social life outside of her teammates & preparing to compete on an Olympic level leaves very little time for dating. It's been months since she's been with a man, so she's looking forward to the Olympic games that's going to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She's heard the gossip that there are plenty of hook ups at the Olympic village. Andie hasn't ever been much into partying, but she's excited to finally have some fun. She's decided since she'll be in Rio for about a month, she isn't going to waste this experience. She's going to make some memories she'll never forget!

Andie arrives in Rio ready to win gold for Team USA & also ready to mingle & see what excitement she can find in the village. Her first day there she crosses paths with a sexy swimmer for Great Britain who already has multiple gold medals & is back for his 3rd games. His name is Frederick Archibald & every woman at the games is hot for Freddie. She soon learns this British hottie is unavailable & complicated. She decides he's off limits to her, but then continues to run into him everywhere she turns.

She gave up on a love life to play soccer on a professional level, so she gives herself a pep talk that she needs to stay away from beautiful men with sexy British accents & just focus on soccer & the games. As Freddie becomes totally enchanted & intrigued with Andie, he pursues her & it gets harder to stay away from him. They become closer and a friendship develops & eventually it turns into so much more. With Andie living in L.A. & Freddie's life being in London, they have to decide what they are going to do with these feelings they have for one another. Add family drama into the mix & you get plenty of angst. I really loved this book! It was my first I've read by this author & now I need to find time to binge read all her other books. I have seriously been missing out! R.S. Grey's writing is fabulous! Sexy, full of humor & captured my attention from the start. I can't wait to read more in this series. I really hope we get a book for Thom & Georgie too! :D

-Andie lit me on fire.

-"This heart, Andie..."

-"I want this heart all for myself."

-"This smile."

-"I'm powerless when it comes to this smile."

-"You're the one I want. You."

This was such a funny and entertaining book! Might as well give it 4 stars just because of Georgie - she's the real star of this book.

description

But seriously though, I adore watching Olympics, European Championships, Diamond League etc. so I was quite hyped when I started this book. I love swimming, well mostly watching since I don't have neither a pool nor a beach near my place, so it's not so surprising that I was completely invested into this story and these characters from the moment I began reading it. I loved both Andie & Freddie, and that drama involving these two was handled quite good, even with those over-the-top moments that would usually make me roll my eyes. Or maybe it's Georgie's fault that I would laugh in all these serious situations. She's amazing.

I also loved the parts where the author showed us Freddie in his 'swimming state' and how he forgot about everything when he was swimming and competing. Or how Andie, despite bumping into some awful difficulties during the Games, still didn't give up on her biggest wish and her team. Well, their scenes were pretty hot as well. ;)

Overall, I feel like R.S. Grey's writing style developed quite a lot during the years and this might be her best work so far. Now's the perfect time to read it peeps!

I buddy read this book with my dear friend Rachmi --- click her name to read her review.

I decided to read another R.S. Grey book by picking up her another sports romance novel,Settling the Score. This book can be read as a standalone but I recommend you to read Scoring Wilder first as the main characters of that book have appearance here.

The story takes place in Rio de Janeiro, 5 years after Scoring Wilder and it's about Andie Foster. For years, she focused trained hard to make it in the American Soccer team as a goalkeeper. Olympics is a huge event for athletes and also a needed vacation for on Soccer. When Freddie Archibald, a Duke and British Olympic Swimmer stumbles her path, she's drawn to his charms and sexiness.

It seems the feeling is mutual, Freddie finds Andie alluring and irresistible. The chemistry between them hits off with sizzling moments but it's quite complicated. Freddie is engaged to someone but he wants to break it off to be with Andie. Being with her publicly will stir more drama and they will both absorb the impact. Aside from breaking his record and getting medals, he wants her heart.

I like this book but I have mixed feelings. I have no complains on the writing style because it's good and engaging. The romance is fine but not off the charts, and the story is entertaining. However, there is something that bothered me:

* The wrist injury: Andie sustains a minor wrist injury and she's been enduring it for years. She got a medical clearance to play in Olympics but it's worrisome she's feeling a dull to sharp pain. That's not a minor injury to me and her pain scale is 7/10 but keeps telling it's 3/10 just to play the games? I understand her determination to play for U.S. and she complied with her therapy sessions in Rio but she went against the medical advice. It's risky and irresponsible. She shouldn't have underestimate injuries, if she's not careful enough, her Soccer career will be over.

Despite my issues, Caroline Montague is a great antagonist. I'm entertained with this two-faced shark and her manipulative, crazy attitude. She's Freddie's ex-psycho fiancee. Also, Freddie's younger sister,Georgie Archibald is the funniest and sassiest side character!. I think these two somehow uplift my rating and they are really entertaining. This is a good novel but not the best one.

R.S. Grey slays it again! Rachel has become one of my auto-buy authors and my favorite go to for a good Rom-Com. Looking for some serious laughs and a whole lot of sexiness? Look no further, this is your gal! Her writing is so real that you feel like you're a part of these characters lives and you can't help but get sucked in from the get go. I imagine that her female characters are a lot like Rachel herself and if so, what fun she would be to hang out with!

'The Summer Games: Settling the Score' is the first installment of a series of companion novels set around the Olympic Games. It sets the bar for all other sports romances because truly it's THAT good! The perfect blend of sports, humor, sexiness, and the sweetest romance.

Twenty-one year old, Andie Foster, is excited to be playing in her first Olympic Games and taking in all that Rio de Janeiro has to offer. And after all the years of hard work and dedication it took to make it to this level in the soccer world, not to mention the sacrifices made to her personal life, you bet your ass she deserves some fun while she's there. She's there to "win gold not hearts" but the off-limits, British gold-medalist swimmer, Freddie, catches her eye from day one and takes up more of her time and thoughts than she would have liked.

And it's not much different for Freddie - He has an obligation to his family to fulfill after the games conclude which means he can't go there with Andie. But that's easier said that done, he's completely smitten with Andie right away. She's not like anyone he's ever met before and obligation be damned, he's determined to be with her.

"We couldn't make each other promises because there was nothing to promise. We had moments, tiny, stolen moments that felt wrong more than they felt right. She wasn't mine and she never would be; I knew that and I felt that every time she was around me."

Andie may be one of my all time favorite female leads now. She's hilarious and full of sass! Oh and she makes Harry Potter references! What's not to love?

"Fine, you death eater, I'm going swimming with the duke."

Freddie is all man and soooo SEXY!! He's everything I could possibly want in a man and then some. Where do I sign up? Together, Andie and Freddie have off the charts chemistry! They are the perfect powerhouse couple and I couldn't get enough of their interactions.

I love that Kinsley and Becca from 'Scoring Wilder' played such a huge role in Andie's life. I loved Kinsley and Becca before but add in Andie and her feistiness to the mix - many many laughs! They played the big sisters to Andie and really looked out for her and had her back at all times. My favorite character of the bunch though has to be Georgie, Freddie's kid sister. Please please please tell me she's getting her own book! This girl is spunky as hell and not afraid to lay it all out on the line for anyone. She tells it like it is and you have to admire her for it. Her commentary had me laughing out loud more times than I can count.

'Settling the Score' is in my opinion, Rachel's funniest and best work to date! This one had a little more steam than her previous work and I loooved it! All of Rachel's books are so much fun to read and will leave you in stitches. This is a MUST read! Add it to your Summer reading plans :)

Let me explain. If I'd read this a few years ago, I'd probably have enjoyed it. The problem for me is that my son swims and so swimming terminology is all I hear at home. He trains (and that's 'trains' not 'practices') in the water eight times a week and does land training (and that's 'land training' not 'working out in the gym') four times a week. So when I read about a swimmer, I expect him to feel like a swimmer. It's kind of hard to believe in a character who doesn't speak the language of a swimmer. I kept telling myself it's a story and so it shouldn't matter what his sport is, but every time he said something that showed his total ignorance of a sport that he's supposedly risen to the top in, I was yanked rudely out of my reading bubble, my eyes rolling.

I doubt anyone but me cares but it's jammers or skin not trunks, kit not gear and winning a race isn't the goal unless it's the final, it's all about swim times.

No, it shouldn't matter, but for me, sadly, it did; I just wasn't buying the character or the story.

Sorry :-(

For someone who likes sports romances, oddly enough I’m not a sports enthusiast—except when it comes to the Summer Olympics. I’m a huge fan and find myself glued to the TV for three weeks every four years. R.S. Grey is a new-to-me author, but when I heard she was writing a Rom-Com that takes place during the Summer Olympic Games I was sold.

Andie Foster is an American soccer player and Olympic rookie on the cusp of greatness. She’s been all work and no play while training for the games. Now that Andie has finally made it to Rio, she’s determined to let loose and fully enjoy her first Olympic experience—including hooking up with a hot athlete. Enter Freddie Archibald, a British three-time Olympian and superstar swimmer whos going for a medal-winning record. (Think Michael Phelps, only a thousand times hotter.)

The chemistry between Andie and Freddie is undeniable, even though his availability status is questionable. As obstacles begin to pile up, I couldn’t help but root for these two likeable characters. The main conflict could have been easily nipped in the bud, but I was in the mood for a fun means of escape so I let it slide. Andie’s two best friends and teammates, however, seem like caricatures in the beginning. Their actions are so annoyingly over the top that they detracted from my enjoyment of the story initially. I was glad their antics eventually toned down.

Freddie, Andie, and the Olympic background are what appealed to me the most. One of my favorite characters is Freddie’s hilariously quirky sister, Georgie. Her spunky, sarcastic, and fun-loving attitude makes her deserving of her own book. I hope she gets one.

The author had me feeling like an Olympian with all the behind the scenes action. I got wrapped up in the practices, the thrill of competition, life in the Olympic Village, the wild parties, and press events.

Some elements may seem a bit farcical, but all in all it’s good fun. The end had me swooning and smiling—exactly how I want a Rom-Com to make me feel. The Summer Games: Settling the Score is an entertaining light-hearted romance featuring enjoyable characters in a lively setting. If you’re looking for brief departure from reality, this should fit the bill. I’ll definitely be reading more work by R.S. Grey.

" When the flame is lit, let the games begin".

After reading this book, all I want to do right now is just book a a flight and take my ass to to Brazil for the Olympic Summer Games!! I want to be a part of the women's soccer team, have drinks with Andie and the rest of the girls while we ogle the oh so sexy Frederick Archibold. Will that actually happen? HELL NO. But a girl can dream.

Andie Foster has sacrificed a lot of herself the last few years. Her social life is in the tank and her love life needs reviving STAT. But despite all of that , she's determined to finally have some fun in Brazil and winning a gold medal while there would be the icing on her cake. What could possibly go wrong with that plan right?

Enter Frederick Archibold.

Olympic swimming champion √

British bad boy √

Panty melter √

Frederick is looking to break his previous record in this Olympics and no amount of distraction is going to get in the way of that. What he wasn't planning on is meeting soccer's newest upcoming star,Andie. From the moment they met, everything else became irrelevant for the time being and despite being socially unavailable, they both crossed a line that had dire consequences.

" What if I want to be with you? "He asked. I shook my head. "I'm currently unavailable."The edge of his mouth perked up like I'd just declared a challenge he couldnt pass up".

Who's gonna win this game? Will Andie and Frederick give in to their desires and walk away with more than just a gold medal?

I really enjoyed this one. I loved Andie and Freddie together. This was a fun sexy read with a kickass setting! I was happy to see Kingsley and Becca were still crazy as ever and I loved the epilogues. I think this author love us because she didn't just give us one epilogue. Oh no. She gave us two and I was really happy about that. So if you love sports romance, this is the book for you. Now excuse me while I go plan my imaginary trip to "Rio".

"Welcome to the games!"

So, I chose one author to read all of her books this year and R.S. Grey was the winner. After reading Settling the Score, I can finally say I did it and just in time for her next book in this series to be released in August. I'm so happy I chose her because I've loved all of her books. Some more than others, but that's just the way it is. I love her writing style and bits of humor she usually adds to each book. Settling the Score was also the perfect book to read right before the Olympics really do start.

"I'd work my ass off on the field, but in my free time I was going to make memories that would last a lifetime."

So, we begin with Andie Foster who is the goalie for the U.S.A. Women's soccer team. She is joining Kinsley and Becca who you've already met if you've read Scoring Wilder. Liam is also there as one of the coaches for the national team. I loved getting caught up with this group. Anyway, Andie is excited to be in Brazil and can't wait to win a gold medal, but while she's there she wants to have a little fun on the side.

"There was definitely something about Freddie Archibald, and if I were going to make a list of sexy athletes in Rio, I'd start with him."

Freddie Archibald was a two time Olympian swimmer on the British team. He was also known as the "bad boy" of swimming. He's back to beat all of his previous records and to win another gold medal. Freddie also comes from royalty and the loss of his father and brother leaves Freddie carrying the weight of responsibility for his family after the Olympics are over.

When Andie and Freddie meet at one of the parties held in the Olympic village, sparks flew, well maybe not sparks, but underwear really did. Freddie was intrigued by how different and down to earth Andie was.

Eventually, as these two spend more and more time together the sparks do fly. Too bad for Andie, Freddie is betrothed to someone else. He hates it and wants out of it. After getting to know Andie he's determined more than ever to break off the betrothal. Unfortunately, Caroline, the woman he's betrothed to, shows up at the Olympic village with his sister, Georgie. Now, I loved Georgie. She was fun, spunky and had a similar dislike for Caroline. She also loved her brother and would do anything to help him.

Freddie tells Caroline how he feels and that he's going to call off the betrothal. At first, she seemed to understand, but soon we see how conniving she really is and of course Andie has to pay the price. Tension and negative attention starts to drive a wedge between them. Do they have what it takes to last?

"I'm taking care of it, Andie. Just don't give up on me."

I really enjoyed this one. Julian Lefray is still my favorite hero from Grey, but Freddie came in second. As I mentioned before, we get to catch up with Kinsley & Liam and Becca & Penn. Lorena Lefray is even mentioned because of a suit she designed for the Olympians. Thanks Rachel for those epilogues...loved them! I'm really hoping Freddie's sister gets a book too. I'm ready...bring on the next book!

I’m a sucker for sports romances!!! I absolutely adored R.S. Grey’s previous one, Scoring Wilder, so when I heard there would be a spinoff, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! And then I saw the gorgeous cover and needed it even more. Settling the Score is the first book in the brand new The Summer Games series, and I have to say, I think it might be my favorite R.S. Grey book yet. There was something so fun and fresh about it – I started it early one morning and finished it hours later the same day, I was THAT hooked onto it. If you love sports romances or if you loved Scoring Wilder, I highly recommend you give Settling the Score a try!

Soccer goalie Andie Foster has made it to the top – she’s playing for Team USA in the Olympics, and she’s dying to win the gold. She has no time for men, wanting to focus on her soccer career, but on her very first day in Rio, she sees the gorgeous Frederick Archibald. He’s British, the most decorated Olympic swimmer, a duke… and did I mention gorgeous? Andie tries to stay away from him, because she knows he’ll be a terribly good distraction, but as their paths cross again and again, their chemistry gets hotter and hotter, and soon enough, they can’t resist each other. Except there’s one pesky thing… Freddie is supposedly engaged to someone already.

Freddie was thrust into dukedom when his older brother died, and he’s been trying to hold off on all responsibilities ever since. His mother also forced an engagement on him, one he’s hasn’t accepted and won’t to go through with, and that decision only solidifies when he gets to know Andie. She’s unlike any other woman he’s ever met – she’s easy-going, adorable, and so dedicated to her sport. They have a wonderful connection that makes it so easy to fall for one another, even when they shouldn’t.

To the world, she was Andie Foster, beautiful American girl ready to take on the world. … To me, she was more.

I. Loved. These. Two!!! Freddie and Andie are ridiculously sweet and adorable together. There’s so much tension between them since they can’t really be together, but when they ARE together, it’s the most heart-warming thing. I fell so hard for their characters and their lovely romance – these two are definitely meant to be together, and I was rooting for them so hard even when things turned sour.

Andie is a wonderful heroine, strong, independent, and hilarious. If you’ve read Scoring Wilder, then you should know that Kinsley, Becca, and Liam play a big role in Andie’s life. Kinsley and Becca are also HILARIOUS – this book isn’t as funny as Scoring Wilder, but I still giggled a bunch whenever the soccer duo appeared on the page. And Freddie – oh my god. He’s perfect. He’s not a manwhore, he’s not ridiculously alpha – he’s just a dedicated athlete who’s thrust into a role he never wanted to be a part of. Then he falls SO hard for a girl, and I swooned every time he opened his mouth. I loved the way Freddie was with Andie!

I stood and dragged my hand over her chest and pressed it down against her rapidly beating heart.
“This heart, Andie…”
She let go of her bottom lip and inhaled a shaky breath.
“I want this heart all for myself.”
“Freddie…”
I didn’t give her time to push me away. “This smile. This is what unwound me. I’m powerless when it comes to this smile.”

R.S. Grey wrote the perfect balance of sports and romance in Settling the Game. I loved that it was dual POV and that we get both Andie and Freddie’s perspectives. I really have no complaints about it, besides the fact that I hated Freddie’s ‘fiancée.’ Seriously, this book is just wonderful! Fun, flirty, and sexy, it’s definitely a top rec for sports romance lovers. Now I’m dying to read the next Summer Games novel!

Holy crap, I loved this book. Sports romances are my weakness, they have consumed me lately. These books are like catnip to me and I can’t get enough. I've seen this series popping up on my feed, so yeah of course I took a chance, thank god I did. Hot, beautiful, athletes-check, soccer players-check(I love soccer), Angst and drama-double check, add in a very satisfying HEA, definitely a hit.

The instant chemistry and connection between soccer star-Andie Foster and swim God Frederick Archibald is hot. Yes it moved at lightening speed, but it does happen. And it happens to deserving people. These two are perfect for each other, even though everything is working against them, and I mean everything. The writing is great, the characters are well-developed, and the ending left me with a huge smile on my face. Definitely a book worth it!!!! A definite recommend from me! 4.5 Olympic Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️❤️

Sports romances are my weakness--they're like catnip to me and I can’t resist. So when I read the blurb for The Summer Games, I knew it was a must-read! I am happy to report that it totally ticked all of my boxes and left me feeling happy and swoony:

Hot, beautiful, gifted athletes?

Behind-the-scenes look into the world of sports?

On-field action as well as off?

Angst and drama?

Check, check, check, and check!

The Summer Games follows Andie, an American soccer player, and Freddie, a Michael Phelps-level swimmer, as they compete in the Summer Olympics in Rio. Andie has been living and breathing soccer for years to make it to the Olympics, so when she gets to Rio, she’s ready to work hard and play harder.

When she meets Freddie, sparks fly and they have an immediate connection. However, there are some major roadblocks to a happy ending as Freddie may or may not be engaged-to-be-engaged (!!!). Yes, Andie and Freddie’s relationship is a bit of rollercoaster, but I found myself totally caught up in it. I was rooting for them to figure things out and fight for their happiness.

Things between Freddie and Andie seem to move quickly, but I have a feeling that’s what really goes on in the Olympic Village. Everything there has an expiration date, so I didn’t feel like it was out of line at all. I didn’t like that Freddie seemed to be so passive with certain situations in the book, however. He could have (and should have been) much more proactive when dealing with his mother and even Andie.

The secondary characters are also great, especially Freddie’s sister, Georgie. I enjoyed her scenes and found her funny, sarcastic, and completely quirky. We definitely need to see more from her in the future! Fans of Scoring Wilder will also be happy to see that Liam, Becca, and Kinsley are all back and we’re given glimpses of their lives after the book ended.

If you’re looking for a fun, sweet, and sexy read with a touch of drama and angst, The Summer Games should be a perfect fit. The writing is great, the characters are well-developed, and the ending left me with a smile on my face. I can’t really ask for anything more!

I had a few problems with this book.

Though if I'm being completely honest, I think those issues we're mainly due to my own irrational expectation and general negative attitude throughout.

So let me start by saying that Settling the Score had an entirely different feel about it than other novels I'd read by RS Grey, and my "problems" with this read are actually evident in many NA Romances. In other words, I'm a unreasonable miserable critic with too much time and a keyboard.

Disclaimer: I really loved this book. Really. It's just taken my heart a little longer to process the sad fact that unless RS Grey republishes With This Heart again under a different title with a change of character names, her next novel is never going to live up to my expectation. Sorry, not sorry.

Ok, so I'm rambling. I had the following "problems" with Settling the Score:

1. The representation of British people was...questionable. I get it, us British folk are charming ol'chaps that you Americans can't help fall in love with. Sure, that part of our representation I was totally cool with. However, I was struggling at times to restrain that part of my brain that told me to laugh in the face of all that was British in this book. He's a duke, cool. His family are affluent, awesome. But never have I ever, in my whole nineteen years, heard someone say 'Well poo' instead of 'Oh shit' and claim to not to have heard the word bullshit before. That, my friends, is bull-bloody-shite.

2. Drama. It was practically bursting through the seems. And restrain an eye roll I shall, but not when I've read this kind of thing a thousand times. Do these people not know how to talk to each other???? I didn't realise it was standard procedure to lock yourself in your room and refuse to come out because of what you interpreted to be true. Obviously, I am wrong.

This is the point where I realise that my several "problems" with the book are in fact only two. Haha, I'm so pessimistic. Guess it just wasn't the book I needed, oh well.

*3.5+*

Overly dramatic at times the book was quite enjoyable and funny. It would score all of five stars if not for two main problems I had with the story:

1. Kinsley and Becca took their roles as overprotective big sisters too close to heart. I was annoyed with them at the beginning but then it got better.

2. Freddie, as sweet and intense as he was, had an air of selfishness about him. Why did he absolutely had to drag Andie in his mess and right at that time? Typical that she had to bear the waight of this situation almost entirely on her own. Like she hadn't enough on her plate already.

Putting those things aside, I can honestly say that I loved this book enough to get my hands on the prequel (Kinsley's story), the sequel (although it features a different couple) and Georgie's own book, wich I'm the most excited about. Georgie was my absolute favorite character and I can't wait to read more about her adventures.

I definitely enjoyed reading Settling the Score but I just didn't fall in love with this book. While it was another very quick and fun read (just like all of R.S. Grey's books), many of the characters were a bit over the top sometimes and made me cringe a lot. Especially Becca and Kinsley were really weird in the first half of the novel and so unlike I remembered them from Scoring Wilder. Furthermore, I thought this book was a little too long and there were quite a few unnecessary and slow scenes in the second half of Settling the Score.

{By the way, even though many of the characters were a bit annoying, I fell in love with Georgie right away. I love her personality and the scenes she was in made me laugh so much. I'm so excited about the fact that Grey wrote a book about her (A Place in the Sun) and I can't wait to read it in the near future!}

4 Stars

Overall Opinion: This was a cute, sexy and easy read. I liked it more than I expected. I didn't realize it was a spin-off or continuation of the Scoring Wilder book, which I actually enjoyed -- so that was a fun surprise to see those characters again! I really liked the side characters, and the whole Olympic scene was fun too. It not too heavy or deep, but it was enjoyable!

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Andie and Freddie's story. They meet at the summer olympics. Andie is the goalie for the US women's soccer team, and Freddie is a swimmer for England's team. There is an instant attraction that neither of them can fight, but after Andie hears that he is actually a Duke and is betrothed to another woman she backs off. He continues to pursue her (because he was forced into the betrothal), and they end up spending some time together and developing stronger feelings. There is some drama with the OW and the media, some sexy times, some funny moments, and some personal issues...but they get a HFN ending.

POV: This alternated between Andie and Freddie's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed, and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: Yes probably, because they developed feelings pretty fast.

H rating: 4 stars. Freddie. I liked him. I appreciated that he wasn't the typical manwhore athlete for a change. He was sweet and sexy.

h rating: 4.5 stars. Andie. I really liked her. Her inner dialogue was pretty funny, and I felt bad for the situation she found herself in.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues required.

Push/Pull:Yes

Heat level: Moderate. They have some good chemistry and scenes.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes, condoms are mentioned. No mention of previous practices.

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation:Yes a short one

Possible Triggers: Mild

Closure: This had cute epilogue (and epilogue's epilogue), but I still wanted more closure! I would say this was a HFN ending (but remember -- I'm picky about wanting the big picture HEA, and others might call this a HEA)

How I got it: This was part of my kindle unlimited subscription.

Safety: Safe with exception

4.25 "love Frederick Archibald" stars

I really liked it!!! I mean who wouldn't when you have this on your repertoire:

Yes, a swimmer, a 4 times Olimpic games champion, a duke (for the record) mr. Frederick "Freddie" Archibald

setting his goals towards more medals but he didn't count on her...

Andie Foster,

an American National soccer team's goalie...

a talented, young vixen, sassy, brassy, open-hearted, naive but determined, stubborn and passionate

...and she set her score with him... the biggest challenge of all.

what happens when the obvious goal becomes shadowed by the most anticipated, most unpredictable one?
Shitstorm happens, that's what!

And Freddie, is not quite...available...but things are NOT always what they seem or look like....

but hey, these are the Olimpics, so...

This was a steamy sport romance with just the right amount of flirtatious banter, palpable temptation and steamy hot love, an impossible obstacle to get over, the enough amount of angst to bite your fingernails off, and then the sweet HEA that makes you say: awwww

Now, if this aint the story that ll make you rise and shine from a lazy afternoon, i dont know what is...

And believe me, you do NOT wanna miss out on Frederick...

Jeeezus! *wink*

alrighty then...
