Police: Man charged with attempted second-degree murder after throwing hot grits on neighbor
Edward Holley charged with attempted second-degree murder
An Orange County man is facing attempted second-degree murder charges after deputies said he threw hot grits on his neighbor during an argument.
Officials said 60-year-old Edward Holley got into a fight with 29-year-old Darryl Blacknell at a home on King Cole Boulevard on Tuesday.
According to the arrest report, Holley told Blacknell that if he came around again he'd "throw grease on him."
So midday Wednesday, when Holley saw Blacknell on his porch playing cards with mutual friends, he's accused of going in, heating up some grits and tossing them on his neighbor.
Holley allegedly told Blacknell, "I've got something for you," before throwing the grits on his neighbor.
Blacknell suffered second- and third-degree burns on 30 percent of his body, and will have to be hospitalized for a significant amount of time, authorities said. According to deputies, because of the severity of his injuries, Holley is charged with attempted second-degree murder.
During his arrest, Holley told police, "If you are going to arrest me, then just arrest me now, 'cause next time I am going to kill him," the report said.

He also told investigators that the incident was Blacknell's fault because he was "following" him around.
Holley was taken to the Orange County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
