Chattanooga Publishing Company announced the hiring of a new president, Bruce Hartmann, on Thursday.

Hartmann was formerly the chief revenue officer and vice president of sales and marketing for the E.W. Scripps Company's publishing division in 2011 and previously worked as president and publisher of the Knoxville News Sentinel.

"We look forward to his leadership," said Jeff Jeffus, president of WEHCO Newspapers. "I think he's uniquely qualified for the challenges the newspaper industry faces, and we certainly welcome him to our table."

During an address to staff of the Chattanooga Publishing Company, Hartmann said he's excited about the changes ahead.

"I'm really excited about being here," he said. "It's going to be a great experience and a great time to grow this paper."

Hartmann said he plans to lean on staff knowledge because despite industry challenges, readers still want local news.

"We know people want local news. We know people want to know what's happening. We know people want to know what's going on."

Hartmann said he and his wife, Tami, look forward to living in the Scenic City.

Hartmann succeeds Jason Taylor as president, who is now a president and publisher of the Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Miss., and regional president of the U.S. Community Publishing East Group.
