Bowling Green State University introduced Bob Moosbrugger (pronounced MOOSE-brugger) as its 14th Director of Athletics Tuesday. A 1994 graduate of BGSU, Moosbrugger will leave his current post as Deputy Director of Athletics / Chief Operating Officer at San Diego State University. His first day at BGSU will be July 18.

"We are pleased to welcome Bob Moosbrugger home to BGSU," said Mary Ellen Mazey, Ph.D., president of Bowling Green State University. "He brings a wealth of experience in athletics operations as well as in donor, alumni and community outreach. Most importantly, he has an unparalleled commitment to student success. I look forward to working with him to take BGSU Athletics to the next level."

Moosbrugger has served at San Diego State in two stints, starting in March of 2000 as the assistant director for the Aztec Athletic Foundation. He was promoted to assistant athletic director/director of the Aztec Foundation in 2004. He was named the director of business development at the San Diego International Sports Council in February 2006 before returning to the Aztecs in September 2007 as the associate athletic director for development. In June 2015, he was promoted to his most recent role.

Prior to his time at San Diego State, Moosbrugger was as an assistant ticket manager and athletic ticket manager at Fresno State from 1996-2000. He was a graduate assistant at Ball State from 1994-96.

"I'm excited to be back in Bowling Green," Moosbrugger said. "It's amazing to think that I started here as a student 26 years ago. I am humbled and honored to serve as Director of Athletics. BGSU has built a strong national reputation. I'm looking forward to working with our staff to build upon that success."

In his most recent role at San Diego State, Moosbrugger is the sport supervisor for football, men's basketball and softball. He also supervises the athletics business office, development, events and facilities, and student-athlete academic services. He works collaboratively to manage the department's $46 million athletics budget and cultivates, solicits and stewards major and annual fund prospects.

A baseball player at BGSU, Moosbrugger earned the team's Don Woods Award as the top freshman in 1991 and was a two-year letter winner. He will be the fifth alumnus to serve as BGSU's Director of Athletics. Moosbrugger came to Bowling Green following a strong scholastic career in baseball and football at Celina Senior High School.

He and his wife, Esther, have two sons, Andrew and Vincent.

As a member of the Mid-American Conference and the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, BGSU Athletics has a long and storied tradition of excellence in college sports. The Falcons won the 1984 NCAA Division I Hockey National Championship as well as the 1959 Small College Football National Title. More recently, BGSU Football has advanced to three consecutive MAC Championship games, winning the title in 2013 and 2015. Women's cross country was the 2015 MAC runner-up and BGSU Gymnastics advanced to the NCAA regionals in 2016 for the first time in 25 years.

Off the field of competition, BGSU Athletics has been a leader academically. The program won the 2014-15 Women's Faculty Athletics Representative Award, given to the program whose female teams excelled in the classroom. The 3.232 cumulative grade point average following the spring 2016 semester is the highest in recorded history, with 23 student-athletes earning a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA and 81 recording a 4.0 term GPA during the spring semester. BGSU's student-athletes accumulated 4,837 community service hours in 2015-16.
