Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Take Home Academic Recognition

Men's and Women's Release

NEW ORLEANS, La. (7/23/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's track and field programs were both recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as a Division I All-Academic Track & Field Team on Wednesday.

In order to be considered an All-Academic Track & Field Team, a program must record a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better.

For the men's squad, UDM receives the academic accolade for the 12th-straight year as the Titans posted a GPA of 3.08. Detroit was one of 116 programs in Division I to be honored and one of three programs that competed in the Horizon League in 2014-15 along with Oakland and Youngstown State. The Titans were also one of just three schools from the state of Michigan on the academic list joining Eastern Michigan and Oakland.

The UDM women's team also earned the honor marking the 13th-straight year dating back to the inception of the USTFCCCA academic award back in 2002. The UDM women had a GPA of 3.31. There were a total of 208 Division I schools on the women's side including fellow Horizon League schools Youngstown State and Oakland. Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Oakland, Michigan, and Western Michigan join Detroit as schools from the state of Michigan on the list.
