Final ResultsGOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Justin Shluker fired rounds of 72, 73 and 74 to total a three-over-par 219 and finish in a tie for 25th place as the Sonoma State men's golf team began the 2014-15 season with a seventh place finish at this week's WNMU Intercollegiate, hosted by Western New Mexico at The Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz. Shluker ended the 54-hole event 11 strokes behind co-medalists Matthew Goddard of Colorado Christian and Justin Wiles of Chico State, who both carded an eight-under-par 208 for the tournament.
All five Seawolves ended the three rounds within six strokes of each other, led by the 219 effort of Shluker.
Brandon Lee (75-73-72--220) tied for 27th,
Kenny Maroney (77-73-72--222) tied for 37th,
Taylor Manna (72-76-76--224) tied for 43rd and
Eric Ash (76-72-77--225) tied for 45th out of 98 participants. Manna, in his Sonoma State debut, rolled in the fourth-most pars of the tournament, recording 38, Maroney parred 37 holes and Lee had 36.
In the team competition, Sonoma State tied with St. Mary's (Texas) in seventh place with an 880 (+16) for the week. South Mountain CC ran away with the team title, scoring an 856 (-8), besting runner-up Chico State (861; -3) by five shots. Cameron (865; +1) finished third, Arizona State (875; +11) placed fourth, Cal State San Bernardino (876; +12) came in fifth and host Western New Mexico (877; +13) ended in sixth place, ahead of SSU and St. Mary's.
Colorado Christian (881), Colorado-Colorado Springs (882), Northeastern State (884), California Baptist (885), West Texas A&M (893), Midwestern State (894), Colorado State-Pueblo (913), Regis (918), Colorado Mesa (921), Texas A&M-Commerce (922) and Adams State (956) rounded out the 19-team leaderboard.
Sonoma State will now compete at the InterWest Insurance Wildcat Classic next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 6-7) in Chico.
