CALGARY- New numbers show there is a huge discrepancy throughout the province when it comes to rental prices.
Statistics gathered by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation show the average cost of a two bedroom apartment in Alberta is $1,190 per month, which is a $135 increase from 2012.
The most expensive place to rent? Wood Buffalo, where that same unit costs $2,061. That’s actually down from 2013, when a two-bedroom apartment cost $2,229 to lease.
Grande Prairie saw the largest increase year over year, jumping $142 from last year to an average of $1,173 per month. Prices in Calgary and Edmonton are hovering around the $1,200 mark.
Those looking for a deal will want to head south: places in Lethbridge are renting for an average of $884 per month, while Medicine Hat is the cheapest city overall at $739 per month.
