Jones Named MEC Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Senior middle hitter Sarah Jones of the Concord University volleyball team has been named the Mountain East Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Jones led the Mountain Lions to a 5-2 week including a 3-1 mark at the Davis and Elkins Tournament. The Woodbridge, Virginia native posted two matches of 20 kills or more with a 23-kill effort in a win over Alderson-Broaddus at the Carter Center and spiked down 21 kills in a three-set sweep of Slippery Rock.

Additionally, Jones tallied her second and third double-doubles of the season with a 19-kill, 13 dig performance against Shippensburg and a 21-kill, 10-dig outing versus SRU. Jones also topped the .400 hitting percentage mark twice during the week by hitting .465 against A-B and .487 in the win over Slippery Rock.

Against King University, Jones went over the 1,000-kill mark in her career, becoming just the fourth Concord player to accomplish the feat.

For the season, Jones has a team-high 155 kills along with 81 digs and 17 total blocks.

Jones and the rest of the Mountain Lions will take their 7-4 record to WVU Tech Tuesday at 7 p.m.
