The FBI June 18 arrested a 27-year-old Highland Heights man accused of mailing a white powder to the Internal Revenue Service.

John T. Buchak is charged with threatening to use a weapon of mass destruction related to including the nondangerous substance in a letter to that agency on March 31.

Mike Tobin of the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Buchak was in court June 19.

‘He owed the IRS and he mailed (the payment form) to Cincinnati and he included the powder in that,’ Tobin said.

If Buchak is convicted, the court will review his criminal history, if any, his role in the alleged offense and other factors to determine a sentence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Chelsea Rice is prosecuting the case following an FBI investigation.
