Rhew Joins Seahawk Athletic Communications Staff

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Eric Rhew, an award-winning publications designer and social media specialist, has been named an assistant director in the Athletic Communications Office at UNCW.

Rhew has worked in collegiate athletic communications for more than a decade and has spent the last three years heading up the communications and promotions efforts at Goldey-Beacom College, an NCAA Division II institution located in Wilmington, Dela.

Rhew publicized the school's 10 programs and also played an instrumental role in the athletic department's rebranding efforts, including the launching of a redesigned website and new logos, while establishing the Lightning's social media identity. In addition to his usual duties, Rhew was involved in the Lightning's day-to-day business operations, including transportation, finances and scheduling.

A 2005 graduate of Towson University, Rhew spent six years as an assistant director of media relations for the Tigers prior to working at Goldey-Beacom. During his tenure at Towson, the Maryland native served as the media relations contact for several teams, including the men's and women's soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's lacrosse teams.

Rhew's work was recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) eight times during his time at Towson. In 2011, he earned a "Best in the Nation" citation for his work on the Tigers' women's lacrosse guide while his 2009, 2010 and 2011 Tiger men's lacrosse media guides were ranked "2nd in the Nation." In addition, the Tigers' 2009 and 2010 women's lacrosse media guides followed as "3rd in the Nation."

Rhew also earned a citation from CoSIDA in 2007 when the Tiger volleyball media guide was ranked 2nd in the District by CoSIDA. He also collaborated on the 2009 Tiger football media guide, which placed "2nd in the Nation" among NCAA FCS schools.

From 2008 to 2010, Rhew served as host media coordinator for the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championships, which was held at Johnny Unitas® Stadium on the Towson campus.

Rhew is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), working closely with the CoSIDA Academic All-America committee.
