WILKES-BARRE – Abigail Zdancewicz broke her previous school record in the 500 freestyle with a first place finish of 5:19.77 in the first session of the Diamond City Invitational. The sophomore outswam her 2013 record by 3.72 seconds. Zdancewicz's performance punched her ticket in the 500 freestyle for the PSAC Championship Meet in February. The distance swimmer's time was a whopping 8.64 seconds faster than the PSAC qualifying mark.
 
Amanda Ernst added additional good news for the Mounties with a PSAC qualifying time in the 50 freestyle. The freshman swam to a fifth place finish with a 25.64, edging East Stroudsburg's Ashleigh Podhayny by .14 seconds. Ernst's time was .14 seconds faster than the PSAC qualifying mark. The 50 freestyle is now the second event that Ernst has qualified for. Back in October, the sprinter qualified for the 100 butterfly with a 1:01.87.
 
Alexis Cable gave depth to Mansfield in the 50 freestyle with an eighth place finish. The freshman finished with a 25.96, edging Hood College's Ashley Griffin by .20 seconds. Cable just missed qualifying for the PSAC Championship Meet by .8 seconds.
 
Connie Medura provided points for the Mounties in the 200 IM with a 2:25.65 eighth place finish, edging East Stroudsburg's Shelby Stalnaker by .17 seconds.

In the 50 freestyle, Hilary Feudale added points to the Mountie total with a 26.59 twelfth place finish. The junior edged out East Stroudsburg's Colleen Dwyer by .01 seconds at the finish. Feudale was just .71 seconds away from qualifying for the PSAC Championship Meet.
 
The Mounties continued their success in the relay events. The 200 freestyle relay team of Cable, Feudale, Doni Matrone and Ernst finished third with a 1:43.37. The relay team was just .57 seconds shy of breaking the school record set last year at the PSAC Championship Meet.
 
In the 400 medley relay, the team of Feudale, Medura, Ernst and Cable finished third with a 4:13.09. They were just 1.82 seconds shy of breaking the school record set in 1999.
 
After five events, Mansfield was tied for fourth place in the nine team meet with Hood with 138 points. The Mounties were only 10 points behind third place King's College. East Stroudsburg led the pack with 240 points.
 
In the night session, Medura led the Mounties with a third place finish in the 100 breaststroke to qualify for the PSAC Championship Meet. The sophomore turned in a 1:10.86, .76 seconds faster than the PSAC qualifying time. Medura was 1.01 seconds away from breaking Jen Market's 1999 school record.

Feudale swam a PSAC qualifying time in the 100 backstroke. The junior finished fourth with a 1:02.28, edging number one seeded Whitney Boackel of Arcadia University by .43 seconds.

In the 100 butterfly, Ernst added a sixth place finish in the 100 butterfly with a 1:03.33, edging East Stroudsburg's Allison Cardow by .07 seconds. Cable finished behind Ernst in eleventh place with a 1:06.11, edging Arcadia's Becca Burkhard by .44 seconds.

The 200 medley relay team of Feudale, Medura, Cable and Ernst turned in a third place finish with a 1:55. 82, edging King's by .7 seconds. The team just missed breaking the school record by .95 seconds set in 2001.

Rounding out the day was the team of Zdancewicz, Lauren Dorosh, Stefanie Hile and Matrone in the 800 freestyle. The team finished in sixth place with a 8:53.34. Lead-off Zdancewicz qualified for the PSAC Championship Meet with a split time of 2:02.49, .14 seconds faster than the qualifying time. The sophomore's 200 freestyle qualification marked her second PSAC qualfication o the season.

Mansfield finishes the day in fifth place with 252 points. East Stroudsburg leads the pack with 516 points after twelve events.

The last day of the Diamond City Invitation is set to begin tomorrow Nov. 23 at 10 a.m.
