CUBILLOS, SOUTHWICK LEAD SAINT ROSE TO WIN OVER FRANKLIN PIERCE

ALBANY, NY– A pair of wins from doubles partners Isabela Cubillos and Paige Southwick allowed The College of Saint Rose to secure a 5-4 win over Franklin Pierce (0-3/0-3 NE-10) Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Kelton Courts.
 
The win marks the first in league action for the Golden Knights (2-5/1-4 NE-10) since the 2012-13 season.

Cubillos and Southwick grabbed the lone doubles point for Saint Rose with an 8-2 win at No. 1. Junior Megan Stacklum and freshman KeriAnn Mahoney combined at No. 2, along with junior Maria Malafronte and freshman Alanna Bergmann at third doubles, both for 8-4 losses.
 
Cubillos and Southwick kept the fire burning at first and second singles as they picked up wins with 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 4-6, 10-8 marks, respectively. Bergman registered her third win at fifth singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win, and Malafronte secured the sixth slot with a 6-1, 6-2 score.
 
Stacklum and Mahoney suffered losses in singles, falling 6-2, 6-0 and 7-5, 6-4, respectively.
 
The Golden Knights host league foe Assumption on Sunday at 1:00 pm, and have a light week coming up with just one match at Adelphi on Wednesday, September 24 at 3:30 pm.
