5 Skin Tips You Can’t Forget This Fall

As the weather changes in fall and winter, you may notice changes in your redhead skin as well. You can easily develop rough, dry, and itchy skin during the colder months, especially if you live in an area where you’re exposed to frigid, dry air and harsh winds. So, how can you save your skin and keep your glowing redhead complexion?

We spoke with Trina Renea, owner of the Facial Bungalow, who also worked for 8 years with The Rapaport Dermatology Group in Beverly Hills. “We all know to moisturize, but there are many things we forget to do. And, no matter what age you are, it’s important for everyone to have a strict skin regimen,” says Trina.

Here are 5 tips you shouldn’t forget this fall & winter:

1. Use a humidifier in your bedroom:

“When we sleep with heaters on we dry up like prunes. Humidifiers create a mist of water into the air to combat the dryness. Soothe dry, parched skin by putting your humidifier near your bed when you go to sleep. In the morning, you’ll not only notice that your face looks more supple, but your hands won’t feel dry either. It also helps to relieve chapped lips, too. Good morning, beautiful!

2. Don’t leave home without Aquaphor:

“Seriously one of my all time favorite products! This emollient is used as a moisturizer to treat or prevent dry, rough, scaly, itchy skin and minor skin irritations. Great for dry lips, face, hands and feet. One thing to know is that most of the moisturizers and cosmetics you use contain glycerin (as does Aquaphor). Glycerin not only moisturizes, but also traps moisture in the skin. That’s only one reason why Aquaphor gets superhero status in my cosmetics bag.”

3. Use Retinol and Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) to exfoliate your skin:

“Slough off dry winter skin by using AHA’s. No other ingredients in cosmetics are as powerful as AHA’s when it comes to peeling away dead, rough and/or uneven layers of old skin. That is because AHA’s work by dissolving the glue-like lipids holding cells together and can penetrate deep into the skin to loosen these clingy bonds. I suggest using TRS Clear Away Face Wash with Jojoba Beads and AHA/BHA.

Retinol is a vitamin A derivatives that unclog pores, boost collagen to reduce fine lines, and speed cell turnover to even out discoloration and smooth the skin. I suggest using Jan Marini Age Intervention Retinol Plus.

4. Use skin oil and serums before applying your moisturizer:

“Incorporate a skin oil or serum for hydration, increased nourishment and brightening of the skin, this winter. They also help in strengthening skin cells. While other face creams contain only 5 to 10 per cent of active ingredients, a face serum can contain up to 70 per cent! No wonder these potent products are able to deliver a much greater concentration of nutrients, deeper into the skin.”

5. Treat yourself to a weekly hydrating mask:

“Choose a mask with soothing effects such as Aloe and Azulene. They reduce irritation and redness. The refreshing essential oil of lavender cools the skin and refreshes the senses too.”

If your skin is persistently dry, cracked and irritated, Trina recommends seeing your esthetician for a good Oxygen Facial.

Rock it like a Redhead!
