England Call Up For Futsal Scholar

30 October 2014

Leon Reece to represent Town at national event

One of Shrewsbury Town's futsal scholars has been chosen to represent the club at a national event.

Leon Reece, who works on Shrewsbury Town Community Sports Trust's Futsal Education Programme, will attend the FA Regional Futsal Centre of Excellence training camp on Saturday 15 November at @Futsal Birmingham.

The training camp has been set up in order to identify and support players as they progress in the England Futsal Performance Programme and Leon will represent Shrewsbury Town at the event.

Leon, 16, who plays as a goalkeeper, was delighted with the call up and said: "It's a brilliant feeling considering I've only been playing futsal for two or three months.

"I've been getting into futsal a lot, and while I was taught to save with my hands when I was younger, I'm now used to saving with my feet."

Adam Henshall, the Community Sports Trust's futsal coach, said: "It's a fantastic opportunity for Leon. To get someone in so soon, in particular for Shrewsbury Town Futsal being in only the second year of it's programme, it's absolutely great.

"It raises awareness of futsal in the area, and it highlights the importance of maintaining academy players in initiative schemes and BTEC programmes like we run here.

"We all know Leon has the ability to go and make that England Under-19s squad, so fingers crossed that everyone else that's involved can see that."

Shrewsbury Town would like to wish Leon well as he represents the club at national level.
