Box Score HOBBS, N.M. – McMurry University volleyball needed a first-set wake-up call, before collecting itself – and the match victory over the University of the Southwest, 3-1. The War Hawks (17-6) won the contest by scores of 17-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-18 over the Mustangs (6-18).
McM has now won two matches in a row and 11 of its last 12 bouts. But McMurry had to dig down deep, after pilfering away the first set of the match.
Junior
Catherine Heath had a match-high 10 kills, for her 13th double-digit kills total of the season. Heath also hit for a good percentage, registering a .533 (with just two errors in 15 attempts).
Katy Headrick and
Lauren Heathcote added nine kills, apiece. Senior
Kayla Hines managed seven kills. As a team, the War Hawks hit a quality .337 for the four sets.
The setter tandem of
Jessica Tennis and
Morgan Thomas amassed 35 of the team's 41 assists. Tennis matched her season high with 21 assists (which she also accomplished versus Henderson State back on September 5). Thomas had 14 assists, to go along with 11 digs and a pair of aces.
Libero
Jessica Cory had a match-leading total of 16 digs.
Taylor London had five kills and five digs off of the McM bench.
It was also McMurry's second win of the season over the Mustangs, with the War Hawks sweeping USW, 3-0, 10 days ago. The teams will meet for a third time on October 31 in the second game of the Schreiner Tournament.
The War Hawks will next play their final regular-season home match versus Huston-Tillotson on Monday (Oct. 27) at 7 p.m. at Kimbrell Arena.
