Escaped Decatur inmate captured in Cullman, was on the loose for 8 hours

CULLMAN, Alabama - An inmate who escaped from the Decatur Work Release Center has been captured in Cullman.

The Alabama Department of Corrections said Blake Mitchell Turner, 29, was taken into custody around 9:30 this morning. The department is not disclosing where Turner was found after being on the loose for about eight hours.

Turner was reported missing from the Decatur Work Release Center at 1:10 a.m. Thursday and was thought to be driving a stolen Plymouth Voyager van. He is four years into a 20-year prison sentence for first-degree theft.

The Department of Corrections said the escape incident will be referred to the district attorney's office for possible prosecution.
