Look out, Apple: Amazon unveiled its rival smartphone, called the Fire Phone. In Seattle, CEO Jeff Bezos showcased the 4.7-inch device that includes a 3D display and detects where eyeballs are looking on a screen with “Dynamic Perspective.” The new hardware will be available on July 25 starting at $199.99. Amazon debuted Prime music last week, which will be included on the phone along with a 12-month free trial of the regularly $99 Prime service.

NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

 
Vevo
and audio platform Vadio announced a partnership yesterday. Vadio will use Vevo’s video catalog to recognize tunes and sync the correlating video with an audio stream. Vadio CEO and Co-Founder Bryce Clemmer said, “With Vevo on board, we can enable media companies around the world to take advantage of the video revolution.” The technology will also enable video advertising to be sold into commercial breaks for Vadio’s clients.
 
PBS will start airing a condensed, half-hour version of Sesame Street in the afternoon starting Monday, September 1. Selected full episodes of the 30-minute show will also be available for free on the PBS web site, PBS KIDS video app and PBS KIDS Roku channel. Noting that “PBS KIDS reach is growing exponentially,” Lesli Rotenberg, GM, children’s programming says that in the past year, the number of users on the app increased 34 percent. The hour-long version of the children’s show will continue mornings.
 
The self-proclaimed “Largest MCN in Europe,” Zoomin.TV, launched in the U.S. yesterday. After scoring eighth on Comscore’s Top U.S. YouTube Partner Channels from last month, Digital TV Europe reports the video game-focused MCN opened up shop in NYC and Miami this week. However, it was already receiving 25 percent of its viewership from the states through distributers AOL, Yahoo and MSN. “Expanding in the U.S. market allows Zoomin.TV to increase user experience through even stronger talent and existing publisher partnerships,” one of Zoomin Board of Directors Chris Young explained. The MCN produces more than 400 unique videos a day, and is part of the YouTube Partner Program.
 
Multi-channel network The Whistle will distribute The Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) U.S. tour highlights and original content on its digital platforms. “Beach volleyball is the quintessential summer sport,” President and co-founder Jeff Urban said. “Being able to connect our subscribers and their pro athletes year around will help expand and engage a new generation of fans.” The MCN has partnerships with MLB Advanced Media, NFL, PGA Tour, and NASCAR, among others.
 
 

CONTENT MEDIA
 

Hulu will exclusively debut the Hispanic millennial rodeo reality series Los Cowboys in October. The half-hour show is based on Latino cowboys and their quest to qualify for the Mexican National Rodeo Finals, which will go into production starting in July.
 
Vevo
and Pepsi are celebrating the longest day of the year with four live-streamed concerts. On the June 21 summer solstice, the duo will present performances from Kid Ink, Cher Lloyd, Prince Royce and Timeflies on both west and east coast stages. Fans can watch on Vevo’s mobile apps or at pepsi.com and vevo.com/pepsi-summer-solstace.
 
The Boston Symphony Orchestra launched a reality web series: New Tanglewood Tales: Backstage with Rising Artists. The show highlights six Tanglewood Music Center fellows during their experience at the BSO’s summer music program. It is available to watch on BSO’s YouTube channel, and at tanglewood.org/mediacenter.

teamed up with DoubleVerify to further eliminate video ad fraud within the SpotXChange network. “Our partnership will provide the transparency and confidence that advertisers expect in order to move more of their video ad dollars online,” DoubleVerify CEO Wayne Gattinella said.

Using Twitter to complement TV advertising bumps awareness by almost 7 percent, according to results from Twitter and Starcom MediaVest Group’s Social TV Lab, a partnership established to deepen awareness of second screen behaviors. Brands that measured sales impact saw a 4 percent sales increase in households exposed to Twitter ads, said the study.

Fiat is introducing an Italian family created by Funny Or Die in a new series of video vignette commercials. In five installments, the ads show Americans purchasing a Fiat car that also includes a quarreling family of three Italians in the back seat.
