Fourteenth Annual Minisymposium on Melanoma

The Fourteenth Annual Minisymposium on Skin Cancer is scheduled to take place on May 18, 2015 at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The focus of the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Mini-symposium is to engage students and encourage their interests in the sciences while giving them a chance to experience working research labs.

The Minisymposium also provides outreach to the community through education and increasing awareness about the disease. Starting in 2002 with the appointment of Dr. Gavin Robertson, the Melanoma Program at the Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute annually presented Mini symposia on Melanoma. These Symposia have attracted experts from all over the United States to address the burning issues confronting researchers, clinicians and patients in the quest to find a cure for this devastating disease.

The Mini-symposium provides local schools with an opportunity to expose their students to translational science.  They will tour basic labs, radiation oncology, and animal facilities, after hearing presentations from doctors, professors, and scientists from Penn State Hershey and the invited speaker.  Students are given demonstrations of lab equipment and participate in some hands-on activities.  The mini-symposium begins at 8 am and concludes at 2 p.m.  Lunch is provided.
