BIDDEFORD, Maine -- University of New England goalkeeper
Aidan McParland has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District ® Men's Soccer Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
McParland, a senior from Brockville, Ontario, is a medical biology major and Dean's List student. Among his numerous academic achievements, McParland is a research assistant at the Ganter Institute Neurogenetics Lab, has received three grants for his research work, and is founder and president of UNE's Genetics Society. He is also a student trustee on the UNE Board of Trustees.
On the soccer pitch McParland takes a 0.85 goals against average and .883 save percentage into Saturday's Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) quarterfinal-round playoff game at Nichols College. He is a two-time first team all-conference selection and has posted 15 career shutouts.
First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2014-15 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
