Both teams on SUNYAC bubble

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Both of Fredonia's soccer teams enter the final weekend of SUNYAC play needing wins in order to still have a chance to make the conference tournament.

The women take a 3-3-1 conference record into their home game Friday against the Oneonta Red Dragons. Game time is 4 p.m. at University Stadium.

With 10 conference points, the Blue Devils are in fifth place in the standings. The top six teams qualify for the conference tournament.

The Blue Devils are also at home 1 p.m. Saturday against the New Paltz Hawks.

Blue Devil head coach Chris Case will be looking for his offense to step up in the two home games.

"We have two tough opponents who are battling for playoff position this weekend," Case said. "We will need to find a way to score goals this weekend. We have been creating chances but unable to execute often enough."

The Fredonia men -- 8-4-3 overall and 2-3-2 in the conference -- starts the weekend in eighth place yet only two points out of sixth place and a SUNYAC berth.

Friday's task won't be an easy one for the men when they visit Oneonta -- 13-0-2 overall, 6-0-1 in the conference, and ranked No.4 in NCAA Division III by the National College Soccer Coaches Association of America.

The Blue Devils travel to New Paltz for a Saturday afternoon game. The Hawks are 0-6-1 in the SUNYAC prior to their home game Friday vs. Buffalo State.
