Community Impact Report 2018

I am thrilled to share our 2018 Community Impact Report and reflect on the work we accomplished last year. Please take the opportunity to read WestSide Baby’s Commitment to Equity as well as our definition of Community as you view the report. WestSide Baby is committed to working toward an equitable vision because not all children have the same opportunity to be safe, warm and dry and we are committed to embarking on the journey to change that. I want to thank our entire WestSide Baby Community and especially our Board of Directors and Staff for growing and learning together to make WestSide Baby the incredible organization it is today."

With Gratitude,

Nancy Woodland, Executive Director

Our Vision

WestSide Baby envisions a day when each child is equipped with the basic items they need to grow into healthy, happy and resilient members of our community.

DEFINING OUR COMMUNITY

WestSide Baby’s Community is families experiencing unmet basic needs and those who come together with the shared purpose of addressing this inequity.

With community support we saw...

Defining our equity COMMITMENT

In service of our mission and this vision, we recognize there are structural inequities that cause the basic needs gap to disproportionately affect communities of color. WestSide Baby operates with the fundamental belief that every child born deserves to have their basic needs met and that unmet basic needs are one important contributing factor to the disparities in health and well-being for children and families of color. When children’s basic needs are met, family resilience is strengthened and our communities are healthier and happier.

Ending Diaper Need & Basic Needs Disparities

In King County, 23% of families with young children are struggling to afford diapers. Families of color experience disproportionate diaper need. Additionally, 45% of LGBTQ families and 36% of families living in South King County experience diaper need.

Some families in our community are disproportionately impacted by diaper need…

Last year we distributed 1.2 million diapers. We celebrate this number and acknowledge the continuing work that needs to be done to end Diaper Need in our community.
