Hello!

The fair equality of opportunities regardless of where one is born is one of the core principles of philosopher John Rawls’ theory of justice. I believe that we can come a bit closer if we all embrace remote opportunities for talented people everywhere, including migrants and refugees, as I wrote in a recent Devex article. At Atlas Corps, we are making our own contributions to opening doors for talent everywhere, including through our remote Fellowship with our partner Generation

In 2023, we have already welcomed two Fellowship Classes and three Virtual Leadership Institute Cohorts, bringing us to 1,700+ social change leaders from 116 countries. Not only are we planning to welcome in another Fellowship Class in the coming weeks but we are also currently recruiting for our Blended and Remote Fellowship programs to begin in 2024.

We are also proud to partner with our own Alumni in engaging with talented and innovative leaders across the globe. We’re extending our opportunities to hybrid and remote settings and connecting with Alumni-led organizations, such as CaterpillHERS and Accountability Lab Pakistan for the Atlas Corps: Pakistan Emerging Leaders Initiative that began in February.

This is an exciting time for both Atlas Corps and the future of work in general. This year will continue to be filled with growth and learning, and I am excited to be able to share it with you all.

Kindly,

Opinion: Remote Work Missing From World Development Report on Migration

Atlas Corps takes pride in our efforts towards digital inclusivity by creating meaningful opportunities for rising leaders worldwide. As we move forward into a post-pandemic world, we continue to emphasize the need for opportunity to be global.

Atlas Corps CEO, Bidjan Nashat, highlights this need in his response to the absence of the potential of remote work within the World Bank World Development Report on mingration. He provides some examples of the great work that Upwork, Tent Partnership for Refugees, and Sora Union are accomplishing and what we at Atlas Corps are learning together with our partner Generation as we lean into creating remote opportunities.

In the words of Bidjan, "We know that talent exists everywhere and now we start seeing that opportunity can as well. To me, this is one of the few positive outcomes of a global pandemic that we should seize upon together from the nonprofit, corporate, and public sector."

Meet Generation Fellow, Faryal, from Pakistan

One of the ways that Atlas Corps is promoting digital inclusivity is through our remote and blended programs, such as our partnership with Generation, a global nonprofit that prepares, places, and supports people into life-changing careers that would otherwise be inaccessible. Our Generation Fellows participate in a fully-remote Fellowship while serving full-time at Generation.

Faryal Najeeb is a Generation Fellow who joins Atlas Corps all the way from Pakistan. Because of the virtual nature of her Fellowship, Faryal has a unique opportunity to participate in our leadership development activities and serve full-time at Generation, while also being able to continue her activism work in empowering women and youth in Pakistan. As their SAMEA Strategy Fellow, Faryal will be a strategic thought partner and force multiplier to the Region Chief Operations Officer through supporting key innovations (e.g. freelancing), regional strategy development, and country launch support in Ghana.

In Faryal’s words, “I am most excited about cross-cultural learning and the projects I will be working on across Ghana, Kenya, and Pakistan…. [and the] networking during the next 12 months through Atlas Corps events.” We wish Faryal the best of luck during her Fellowship.
