Campaigners report Ryanair ad to British police

Ryanair brexit ad

Pro-Brexit campaigners have complained about Ryanair to the British police, over an advertisement offering cheap airfares to anyone travelling to vote in favour of the UK remaining in the European Union.

Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary is an active campaigner for Britain to stay in the EU, and the airline spent €25,000 on adverts urging customers to vote "remain". But Vote Leave, the official Brexit campaign, wrote to London's Metropolitan Police complaining that the offer - pictured above - may violate referendum rules and anti-bribery laws.

The tongue-in-cheek ad doesn't suggest Ryanair has any way of knowing how passengers would vote, if at all.

"The 'leave' campaign must be getting really desperate if they're objecting to low-fare travel for British citizens," Michael O'Leary said in a statement.

"As the UK's largest airline, Ryanair is absolutely clear that the UK economy and its growth prospects are stronger as a member of the European Union."
