Review: Why You Don't Want To Read Gary Vaynerchuck's New Book

This article is more than 8 years old.

Gary Vaynerchuck or GaryVee, as he is most commonly known, has a new book due out March 8th called#AskGaryVee. #AskGaryVee is an extension or written version of his wildly popular YouTube show#AskGaryVee, where he answers questions for his legion of followers, or as affectionately calls them Vayner Nation.

The#AskGaryVee book is a fast paced, information packed mind warp that you should not read unless you're absolutely serious about business or personal growth AND are committed to taking action. #AskGaryVee is not some theoretical diatribe penned by a non-practitioner repackaging the old and tired methods of the past. It is the rants and off the cuff insights of a practitioner and hustler in the field. It's the insights, vision, and straight up guidance of someone who's built several multi-million dollar businesses using the new tools and approaches of the 21st-century.

The 21st-century has changed everything. It has ushered in an entirely new way of doing business, marketing and sales and GaryVee has been the Christopher Columbus of this new era. Starting ten years ago, leveraging nothing more than YouTube, a Flip Cam, and a dimly lit room in the basement of his father's wine store,  GaryVee turned a 3 million dollar a year local wine store into a 60 million dollar a year wine juggernaut.

GaryVee always seems to be just a few steps ahead of the rest of the business, sales and marketing worlds and his book#AskGaryVee is an unabashed extension of the thinking that places him in such rarefied air.

If you're not ready to do something differently, if you're looking for a feel good book that validates everything you're doing today, then don't waste your time.  This book is not for you.

I saw this amazing quote the other day, and it encapsulates the tone and message of#AskGaryVee

The problem with most of us is we rather be ruined by praised than saved by criticism.  - Norman Vincent Peale

#AskGaryVee answers 370 questions from people of all walks of life, and although he's not critical in each, his responses are always direct, real, irreverent, and keenly helpful.

Broken into chapters ranging from Education, Parenting, Facebook ads and Excuses, to Leadership, Management, Investing and Content,#AskGaryVee is a content fire house, dousing readers with honest, blunt answers to their questions.

There is no escaping Gary's answers. He purposely puts you on your heels. His confidence will be perceived by the weak and insincere as abrasive, unprofessional, and patronizing.  To those of you who are genuinely committed to hustle (as Gary is so fond of saying), who aren't in denial or trying to hide from failure, who are open to the new and not trying to defend the old, who don't want to be ruined by praise, who want to be saved by criticism, the pages will turn your creative juices and light a fire under you. #AskGaryVee will make you uncomfortable and get you excited about your discomfort.

If you're not serious about your business, your career or your life, don't buy this book. It's not for you. But if a good kick in the ass, from an innovative entrepreneur, who's hustling what he's been preaching for ten years, is what you're looking for. You're gonna love it.
