Miss Hollywood by Marie Garner

I wish I had more good things to say about this book.
I didn't really get into at all. I had a hard time with the back and forth between the points of view. It's difficult to tell a story from multiple POV, and while I appreciate the effort, it wasn't very clean.

Alex was sweet but troubled. Clare was Naive and immature. Their back and forth really got on my nerves and the ending was so lack luster. I kept wanting and waiting for...more...I feel like even though their pasts were drawn out and forthcoming, I didn't really know the characters at all. There was no connection for me and I actually liked the sub characters more than the mains.

I struggled with this book. Took me a week to finish. Which is NOT like me at all. There were also Some continuity issues as well.

I do commend Garner for writing though. I cannot imagine what it takes to complete a novel. I just wish she took more time, made it from Clare's POV only and had a better flow to the whole story.

Miss Hollywood is the final book in The Misses Trilogy and it focuses on the characters Clare and Alex- who you’ve ‘met’ if you’ve read the first two books. While I recommend reading this trilogy in order, you could still read this as a standalone.

This one dragged a little bit for me and I found myself skimming through some of the pages. While the main characters were likable, I don’t think I really got to know them enough. This could be because to me there were too many other secondary characters, and things got a little confusing at times. I didn’t dislike the story, but I didn’t love it, overall it was satisfactory.

Still, check it out as this is only my opinion. It’s a light read with a dash of sexiness.

Miss Hollywood is the third and final book in the Misses Trilogy and we finally get Clare’s book! She’s the quiet one of the three girls and I’ve been intrigued by her since we first met her in Miss Congeniality.

Clare is the Hollywood golden girl, the “It” girl that everyone wants to be. She’s the star of Maggie Beach, and also the go to girl for Rom-Com’s when she’s not filming her hit show with Raquel and Brea. Problem is she wants to break out of her type cast and do something edgier, she wants to break the mold and do something else but no one wants to give her the chance. With her life going down in shambles and her not wanting to share what’s going on, the golden girl is falling apart. When Raqel and Brea finally intervene and make her spill the beans on what’s going on and then get Brea’s brother Alex to help her, sparks fly between Alex and Clare and an amazing story is told.

Alex, if you’ve read Miss Congeniality, is Brea’s brother and has a difficult past. He’s been in jail, he’s tight lipped about why he has done what he’s done, and he’s now working on moving on with his life. He doesn’t think he’s good enough for Clare, but he can’t fight his attraction to her, but when she needs his help, he’s more than willing to help her, especially since it’s something he knows a lot about.

Immediately you can see how protective Alex is of Clare, even if he says things between them are just friends or casual, you can see that it clearly isn’t, and things are going to be complicated. Both of them are naive at times thinking things are going to just work out and everything will be ok. Both of them try to deny that they have feelings for one another, and once they realize it, it’s too late and they both end up hurt. Not only do they have to deal with their up and down relationship, but also Clare’s family issues.

Watching these two navigate through all the drama and family issues, and get away from the Hollywood limelight was awesome. I loved seeing this book take place mostly outside of the Hollywood scene and getting to see Clare back in her roots. I think it helped Alex see her as a normal girl instead of the “it” girl everyone knows her as and helped take her off the pedestal he kept her on for so long.

These two are the definition of opposites and somehow they just click. I loved watching them navigate their personal issues both separately and together. They are not a match made in heaven, but they are a match that just works. They balance each other out and keep each other sane. They work and I loved how they brought out the best in one another. Their chemistry is off the charts and Alex is sexy as sin in the bedroom! I also enjoyed catching up on the characters stories from the previous books as well.

I really enjoyed this trilogy and seeing each of the “misses” get their HEA. I didn’t know what I was getting into when I started this series a few days ago, but now I’m kicking myself of not reading it sooner. It’s a perfect series for those who love the Hollywood romances with a twist. I believe Marie Garner saved the best for last, I’m just sad to say goodbye to this amazing set of characters!

My Rating: 3 Stars

When I received this book to review, I immediately read the first book in the series, to get a feel for the author’s writing style and to understand the trilogy a bit better. I honestly couldn’t finish it. The main characters seemed to be halfway in love by chapter two, and were sleeping together within the first 30% of the book. There was no build up, no real emotional connection, in my opinion. They met, grew feelings, and that was that. I’ve never been a fan of insta-love. I like my characters a little angsty and tortured – it makes things that much sweeter when they finally give in. Because of my dislike of the first book in the series, I was nervous to read this one. I am extremely happy to report that Miss Hollywood is a vast improvement over Miss Congeniality. I LOVE books about a romance between the best friend’s brother/sister – I don’t know why but they are just my thing. There is also plenty of angst to go around, as well as a damaged hero – another favorite of mine.

Despite my rating of 3 stars, I really enjoyed the plot of this book. The two main characters had real chemistry and I loved their interactions. I wasn’t sure how Garner would bring them together and thought that them getting closer while helping her father save his auto body shop was a clever way to do it. At the start of the book Clare is in a downward spiral and its quickly affecting her career. Alex is still struggling to maintain his sobriety and get his life back together two years after serving time in jail. Somehow, they help one another overcome their issues and of course fall in love in the process. Marie Garner has a real talent for making characters easy to connect to. Oftentimes when reading a book with a famous main character, there are parts of the book where I feel disconnected from them. Despite the fact that Clare is one of Hollywood’s best known starlets, she never has a diva moment and I often forgot that she was famous at all. She was a very relatable character.

Unfortunately, its that time. Time to talk about what made this a 3 instead of 5 star book. For me, it was just an issue with editing. There were paragraphs where the same word was repeated multiple times, making each sentence seem redundant. There were misspelled words (something that I often overlook because it happens to all authors occasionally) and some of the dialogue was just plain awkward. Now some of this can be chalked up to the usual mistakes any author is bound to make when writing a book – nobody is infallible, mistakes are easy to make. However, many of these typical mistakes made are caught during the editing stages of the book. I’m not sure what happened here, maybe there was an overabundance of mistakes, or someone had to meet a deadline, but I would definitely recommend that this book be read through a few more times (I know it has already been released, but it couldn’t hurt).

My Takeaway: Although the story was great and the chemistry between the characters was steamy, I struggled to finish the book because of the at times awkward dialogue and spelling/redundancy issues. Because I think that Marie Garner has a real talent for writing relatable, interesting characters, I plan to give her next book a chance in the hopes that some of these things have been fixed.

Marie Garner's Miss Hollywood was such a quick, refreshing and fun read.

Fact:

I **love** reading novels about forbidden romances that occur between the hero or heroine and their best friend's brother. The quagmire is infinitely appealing, particularly because it is often considered taboo to encroach upon sacred ground, especially when a love interest has indirectly been declared "off limits."

Will they or won't they act on their desires?

That is the question that reels me in and fuels my interest every single time. When it comes to these types of romances I am like a fly lured into the spider's web or the unfortunate fish that wonders his way into a fisherman's net.I simply cannot resist the lure, and that is the very reason that I was so excited to read Miss Hollywood.

Another Fact:

Marie Garner did not fail to reel me in with this lovely story about two people with kinetic chemistry and insecurities that threaten to diminish the flame that burns between them. In fact, she delivers a tale that is sweet, thought-provoking and guaranteed to thoroughly satisfy you yet it will also drag you through the emotional wringer in the same breath.

One of the most welcoming aspects to this novel is that the heroine, Clare Martin is the so-called "it-girl" in Hollywood; typically, it is the hero that is on the receiving end of the adulation that comes along with all that the fame associated with Hollywood implies. This unique, imaginative and fresh take on the heroine's celebrity greatly appealed to me.

And I adored Alexander’s character. He is troubled and imperfect and he makes his mistakes but when it comes to Clare he is wide open with his feelings, whether he intends to be or not. He is strong, loyal and incredibly fascinating due to his turbulent family history and his struggle with addiction. There is an inherent sexiness about vulnerable heroes, and the author showcases this well throughout the novel.

The romance between Alexander and Clare shines brightly in spite of the obstacles that threaten to extinguish their spark. They are thrust together in a set of extenuating circumstances that force them to acknowledge their attraction and address the passion that has ignited between them. However, deception and undisclosed truths threaten to obliterate their newfound happiness.

Allow me to be perfectly clear: Miss Hollywood is like an amusement park ride. Yes, I was more than ready to dive in headfirst and I was prepared for everything that would come along with the joyride. When it was over, I was ready to jump right back in and experience the journey over and over again.

Can Alexander and Clare's love affair survive the stumbling blocks and hurdles that they encounter as they race towards true love?

READ IT because I recommend Miss Hollywood to anyone who likes pleasurable love stories that will leave the heart warmed and invigorated due to a book's transcendent highs and heavenly, intoxicating moments. It will light you up with euphoria and leave you grinning from ear to ear!

Thumbs up for Ms. Garner's latest release!!!

And that is my final word.

Overall: 4.5/5 stars

Heat: 4/5 sexy, scorching flames!

Miss Hollywood is the third and final installment of the Misses series and I felt like it was the perfect ending for the book series. I felt that this story shed some more light on the secondary characters that were in the other two books and it answered a lot of questions that I previously had.

Clare is known as Hollywood It girl that was always the more quiet of the three misses. I enjoyed being able to find out more stuff about her and realized there was more to her then just being Hollywood’s it girl. She was still trying to get over the betrayal that she experienced at the end of the last book in the series. I really enjoyed her character.

Alex was a character I wanted to know more about since being introduced to the character in the first book. Alex is loving and caring character that would do anything for his sister and nephew. It is obvious within the first book how much he loved his sister and it is shown even more within Miss Hollywood. I absolutely adored Alex and cheered for him so many times within the book.

Miss Hollywood is about Clare is currently experience problems in her life that involve her family. These problems see her going back home and needing help from someone. This person is Alex who has suffered is far share of family problems. The two of them are stuck in Care’s hometown and both of them are trying to fight the attraction they feel for each other.

Marie Garner has written a really romantic and sweet series which I really enjoyed reading about. I found that this was the perfect ending for the three characters. I found that I really enjoyed the secondary characters throughout the series and hope that Marie Garner will write a story about Raquels sister Ainsely because I’m really interested to find out if she will get with Spencer or not. If anyone is looking for a sweet romantic read wit plenty of steamy and hot moments then I highly recommend Miss Hollywood.

Miss Hollywood by Marie Garner
3.5 Stars

This is the 3rd book in Garner's The Misses Trilogy series however I went into it as a stand alone and not sure what to expect. The plot of the best friends siblings is definitely something that peaked my interest. I enjoy the alternating point of view which gives us a bit of insight into what both main characters are thinking. Clair is the popular Hollywood Starlet who seems to be spiraling into some troubling behavior which puts her dream job on the rocks. I felt she was a hard character for me to relate to, and I struggled reading through her chapters. Alex was described as this “bad boy ex con” however I just didn't see it. He came across sweet and patient with Clair and we learn more about him and his background and reasons his life has played out the way it has. There's not many romance books where we see the male lack confidence, but Alex definitely feels he's not good enough. After being forced together they ended up acting on the chemistry Clair has been ignoring. Overall this is a quick, light read with a HEA, but it wouldn't hurt to proof it again for some continuity issues which made it a little confusing.

3/5 Stars!

Miss Hollywood is about two insecure people who find what they need in each other.

Clare is Hollywood’s It girl, but she is not as well put together as she appears. Alex has made mistakes and he owns them all. He is also Clare’s best friend’s brother. When they are thrown together, feelings arise and attraction burns.

Here’s the thing. While I liked the story itself, there were so many characters involved in this story of two people, it was hard to follow along. Don’t get me wrong. The writing is really good and the storytelling works. It is just that there are too many POVs to keep them all straight at times, which proved to be distracting.

A good story with likable main characters, but a bit of an issue with execution.

I really liked that Miss Hollywood is about Brea’s brother Alex and Clare. In the previous two Misses books, we had some family drama going on but it is way more intense in Clare and Alex’s story, just like them. Their chemistry was the love/hate kind. I loved them together though as much as they tried to fight it, they were better together.

**** I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book****

The final story in the Misses series. Claire is known as the it girl. Claire has some issues in her family while Alex will do anything for his. So when they are stuck in her hometown will they fight the attraction they have towards each other or will her issues keep them apart? A truly wonderful series.
