Scavenger in Rostraver finds pipe bomb in trash

A woman in Rostraver found a pipe bomb while scavenging through garbage Sunday morning, according to police Chief Greg Resetar.

Police went to the location on Tyrol Boulevard where the item was found at 9:30 a.m. and called for assistance from the Allegheny County bomb squad, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Resetar said.

“It was what it appeared to be,” he said of the bomb.

The bomb was taken away from the area and officers “were able to make it safe,” Resetar said.

The incident is being investigated by the federal authorities.
